Hi guys,

I will be visiting Delhi with 2 of my friends on Feb 5. Will be staying there for about 3 days. I am looking for a simple, non AC, clean accommodation under Rs. 1000 a day for 3 of us.

Tried to book YHAI hostel. But it is asking for a membership. Everywhere i search i get cheap hotels only in Pahargunj. But going by the pics of Paharganj in google i dont feel like staying there.

I tried to book Ginger hotel, but the bookings are not open for Feb.

Any other suggestions.

Also i will be arriving at Delhi airport at 11:30pm. What is the best to come to the city. Is there metro or bus available. Or should i take a pre-paid Taxi.

If you dont have a lot of luggage, board a metro and search hotels in Karol Bagh/Gurudwara Road area ...try this Hotel Grace

1693 Arya Samaj Road, New Delhi, Delhi 110005 - 011 28753596

@^^

Where will they get Metro near the airport?? :S

To get to anywhere in Delhi from the airport, you'll need to take a taxi. You can get a pre-paid one from Eazycabs counter at the airport, and they will charge you ~Rs.250 to get to central areas like Karol Bagh/Pahar Ganj. Alterntaively you can take the non-AC black and yellow cabs from their pre-paid counter at the airport which is located right near the exit. They should charge you around Rs. 150-200 for the same distance as mentioned above. Do not take any Autos (three wheelers) as they will try their best to suck out money from you and since you are going to be three people, it will be a tight fit in the rikshaw with luggage. Take a cab to make it easier on yourself.

As for the lodging part, Pahar Ganj is your best bet in the budget you have mentioned. I know the place and surroundings do not look good, but believe me, they have every kind of place to eat and all neccessities are available locally. If nothing works, you could just stay there and there is the Uber-cool Connuaght Place very close by. You can go there to eat any kind of cuisine you can think of.
Then, you could also check out the hotels in Karol Bagh area. They might be slightly higher priced, but they are surprisingly clean, decent, and located in nicer area. Near Karol Bagh is an area called Old Rajinder Nagar which is also full of such smaller, clean hotels.

Actually your accommodations also depend on the place you are going to be visting. The above mentioned places are more or less centrally located with big markets nearby. Also these places are very easily connected by the Delhi Metro, so travelling within the city should not be a problem if you stick to the metro.

Do tell me more about where you want to go while in Delhi so that I can help you better.

If you're okay with staying at Ajmeri Gate then you should give Ginger Hotels a try. The have a family room (4 beds) for Rs. 1000/- per night. Only issue is that they are always booked. As far as I know, they have not yet opened booking from the 1st Feb (I know as I called them up for booking from the 6th Feb, myself). So send a mail to the hotel directly and inform them about your tentative dates of stay. If you're going to make bookings by CC then you can also provide them with your CC details and the details of the people staying there. They will either confirm the booking for you once they open up for the specified dates or if you choose to make payment by Net Banking, then you will get a mail from them when the bookings are opened.

I can vouch for Ginger Hotels. It is a Tata group firm. Have been staying with them from 2008 and find them to be complete VFM. Only thing is that no room service at their group hotels.

Visit www.gingerhotels.com for more information.

PS: I don't work for Ginger or the Tata group.

Thanks guys for the reply. I will just be spending the 3 nights in Delhi. Its transit point for me. I will be leaving to uttaranchal on 6th and coming back few days later to to stay in delhi on 12th and 13th. Will be going to agra on 13th with my luggage in my room.

My return flight is on 14th night. Will need a place to sleep. Most of the time i will not be in my room. No offense, but Pahargunj doesnt look good. Is it a slum??

Anyway will try and book Ginger hotels. If not i will look for some hotels in Karol Bagh. Will there be many tourists in Feb??

Bro! More than 70% people staying there are foreigners. It does looks bad but trust me you will love that place if you are fetish about food too, whole lot of options there regarding hotels and cuisines there. You can give it a try :cool2:

No metro from there so cab/taxi is the best and only option imo.

Please throw in any more queries you have :)

Thanks guys for the replies.

Also let me know where to have good food. Will pay a visit to Parata Wali galli and Karims. Any other recommendations.

Where to get good chats??

Also would like to know some good pubs which plays light music.

Paranthe Wali Gali is over-rated IMO. The "paranthas" are deep fried for God's sake! The stuffing range from good to excellent to outrageous!

If you are a foodie, then you definitely want to have -

Punjabi Bagh wali Aloo ki Tikki, Patel Nagar wale Gol Gappe, Karim ke kabab/rolls (Jama Masjid), Khan chacha wale rolls/kababs (Khan Market), Pastas and Grills at the Big Chill Cafe (Khan Market), Nirula's ka Hot Chocolate Fudge (many locations), The best butter chicken at Mughal Mahal (Rajindra Place), or at Swagath (Defence Colony). Great south Indian food at Sagar Ratnam (many locations, best one is in Defence Colony), good mexican food at Rodeo or Mismo (Connaught Place)

The best joints for great food are located in Defence Colony, Khan Market, Connaught Place and Greater Kailash.

^^I cant wait to try all of them. But this will be done only after coming back to Delhi from Uttaranchal. I dont want to take the risk of having a bad stomach during trekking in mountains and forests.

Adding few more :)

Roshan di kulfi (Karol Bagh), Sitaram's chole-bhature (Paharganj), South/north indian food stalls (Jantar Mantar road), Kachoris (Hanuman Mandir in CP), Veg/Nonveg rolls (near PVR Priya) ... will add more :P

cab to CP/pahargunj is like 200 + 10bucks/bag, but you will have a +50% night fare , after 11pm

and ofcourse, you prolly wont find anything to eat by the time you get there.

just a tip :)
