Laptops Acer aspire 3680 laptop dead

hello guys, laptop was working fine and all of a sudden it went dead. So gave it to DOTCOM acer authorized service centre. They took about a week time and told that reworking the mobo isnt possible and i have to go for new one.

The new mobo price they quoted is 13k. OMG.

Now tell me guys, what could have gone wrong with the lappy. It isnt working.. If the RAM has gone bad, then will the lappy give any beep sound as in the case of desktop pc ??

Now any of you tell me what i can do with this lappy.... Havent got it from them. Moreover i have to pay diagnosis charge of Rs.300/-.

Two ways to go there mate...
i) get diagnosis confirmed... :cool2:
a) by yourself.... ram and hdd etc pretty easy to remove... get a similar laptop / or dissimilar one from some friend... check your stuff works with his laptop... for battery and adapter you need similar laptop or Multimeter and check the readings are same / similar to ratings...
b) take it to few other laptop repair professionals... ( Can be found advertising their skill set in classified section of newspaper) yes refrences will also work here...:no:

If verdict is motherboard faulty.... forget about it and scavenge items and sell on TE / Ebay... :cool2:

ii) You can also give it to chip level repair labs... if the lab can repair it provided one of the main IC's ...ie North Bridge / south bridge / CPU has not conked... they will repair it ... they can also replace main IC's but its not advisable...
You can find the mainboard in some laptop spares shops online... but again nowadays laptops do come with CPU fixed on MB... if that case with you... you have to buy the bundle... CPU + MB.... good news is still you can sell your faulty MB to repair labs for peanuts... Provided you are open to peanuts and not allergic to it...
You can replace the MB yourself... post here for the guide for the same...
or you can always ask somebody else to do it for you...

Provided you are hell bent on repairing the laptop and not open to stonger, younger models....

besides these only other less obvious choices is too
i) wait for someone with other busted part to sell you his laptop MB...
ii) if you have insurance you can always leave it on the bus stop.... somebody will be a bottom feeder enough to snatch it and then....Goodbye Lt. Lappy and HELLO!! insurance Fraud...:ashamed:
iii) You might actually consider to pay ACER 13K to get old laptop with 1 or 3 months or no warranty fixed :rofl:
