Hi Guys,

I have been thinking of buying a laptop for quite some time now. But due to limited budget of Rs. 35K, I was not getting good choices. Recently I read about Acer Aspire 4530 which should probably fit the bill.

The intended use will be surfing the net, watching movies, programming, word processing, etc.

If anyone of you have used this one before, kindly give your suggestions about suitability of this lappy.

I am in a similar situation with a 30k-ish budget and am looking at the 4530 too....... the lappy seems to be decent ... looking forward to having some user feedback too....

I bought that laptop about a week back.

There are a few issues. But I suppose that's to be expected from a product that's new to the market. I suppose they'll get smoothed out with bios / driver updates.

Overall seems to be remarkable vfm and good looking to boot.

Let me know if there's anything specifically you need to know.

Specs and price wise it seems a worthy successor to the 4520. + the 9100m chipset is supposed to eb pretty good as far as mobile integrated chipsets are concerned.

Thanks guys for the reply. I had read the review by Experter. In fact that set me looking for more details, as sometimes laptop configuration differs from country to country.

@lide,
Could you answer the following with your hands-on-experience with this lappy:

- How is the battery life for normal usage?
- What OS does it come installed with? If it is Vista, how easy it would be to replace it with WinXP or Linux (Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, Mandriva)

Thanks in advance for the help.

Hey, I am facing lot of heating problem with my compaq V3425AU [AMD X2 based].

Twice motherboard replaced.
Low battery life with normal usage.

The 4530 model available in India has AMD Athlon X2 QL60 processor instead of AMD Turion X2 available outside India. Presumably this will impact processing power and battery life. I will prefer to wait till Turion X2 version of 4530 is launched in India.

Not really. Even the US site has the same processor:

Acer - Products

For this budget price range I doubt you will get a better processor. THose will be available in higher models I guess.

Thanks for clearing this up. I was referring to the link given by Magnet about Acer 4530 review "Acer Aspire 4530 (update : 8 Aug 08) Expertester", which mentioned Turion X2 RM70 processor.

i bought an AMD Athlon X2 1.9 Ghz laptop with NVIDIA 7000M laptop in feb '08. the battery life sucks because of the amd proccy and the thing heats up like hell. the 7000M card does not support ubuntu (but supports kubuntu) [as in you won't get past the location page while installing ubuntu]. batt life even with normal usage groans at 1.5 hrs. these laptops r cheap, but if u can spare a little extra, get something with intel.

Oh! and u'd like to check out if the graphics card is as good as it looks. in the 7000M even halo 1 screws up!!!!
