Opps..Forgot to mention the budget. Its about 40k. I would like to have :

3/4GB RAM

At least 500 gigs of hard disk

USB 3.0 slot

Core i-3/ Core-i5 ( for home use like browsing and office apps, would Core -i3 be enough ??)

Not very particular about graphics card as i wont be using it for high end gaming

Would like to have a good set of speakers though, decent sound.

Most important of all : Good support & Service for the product

Get this then. Has Core i3-2310M and USB 3.0 port. It has 2GB RAM. You can 2GB more for just Rs. 750!

The Integrated Intel HD3000 is enough for light gaming needs like say NFSMW, Counter Strike or even some of the latest games in low settings.

Reg. service it varies from place to place. Mention your place to get comments on Acer service in your city from other members.

Core i3-2310 is more than enough for your needs. So dont overspend on an i5 proccy.
 
Thanks DarkAngel , that seems to be a good buy. But it comes with Free DOS, i would prefer Windows 7 with the laptop, and the additional 2 gigs of RAM.

I am from Bangalore, so if other members can comment on Acer service over here , it would be very helpful.

And how are prices in Flipkart compared to local dealers? Today when i inquired at the Acer Mall here, he said the price of Acer Aspire 5755G is 46k. But in Flipkart, the price is around 44k, which is about 2k less :)
 
If Windows7 is must then get the TimeLineX 5830T series. Has windows7 HB pre installed. Also it has excellent battery life of 7 hours :)

Flipkart prices are usually cheaper in many cases. But check with local dealers for the model you finally choose so that you dont miss out on a good deal :)

Dell also has onsite support. So @~35k it is also a decent alternative. You can order directly from Dell or check with the local dealers for stock.

Awesome..that was really helpful. Have one more query , whats the major difference between Windows 7 Home Premium & Windows 7 Home Basic ?

Hope Windows 7 Home Basic is more than enough for home use , or are there any major handicaps if i go with Home Basic.
 
W7 HB is more than enough I think.

As for the differences between windows 7 home premium and Windows 7 Home Basic -

1. Max RAM supported - 16GB, 8GB

2. Ability to create homegroups - Yes, No(can only join homegroups)

3. Built in DVD and AVCHD decoder - Yes, No

4. Aero Graphics(eye candy) - Full Aero Support, Partial Aero Support

5. Premium Games and Windows Media Center are not included in W7 HB
