Till now Windows 8 based tablets were only available with 10 inch and bigger screen sizes, but after huge success of smaller tablets like Nexus 7 and iPad Mini , smaller Windows 8 based tablets have finally arrived, with Acer unveiling its first 8.1 inch Windows 8 based tablet, the Iconia W3 at Computex 2013.

It Iconia W3 runs full Windows 8 OS ( not RT ) which means that all current and legacy Windows software and comes bundled with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 suite.

It features a 8.1 inch display with 1280x800 resolution and powered by Intel Atom Z2760 1.8GHz dual-core processor. It has 2GB of RAM and 32 / 64GB internal storage with microSD slot for expansion.

The slate has 2MP cameras on front and rear, micro USB port, micro-HDMI port, Bluetooth 4.0 , Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n. The battery life is up to 8 hours which is pretty decent. It weighs 540gm and is 11.35mm thick .

The Acer Iconia W3 will be priced at $379 but whether it is for 32GB version or 64GB version is not confirmed yet.

Acer will also sell a optional full-size keyboard designed similar to the keyboards found on Acer's 13.3 inch laptops, it will cost around $90 extra.

Seems it is launched in India for 28,000. A bit tempting if paired with the keyboard dock.

But I am waiting for a good Windows 8 tablet with a Haswell processor.
