Activision and Valve today announced a joint agreement to bring four new PC games to Valve's Steam platform, which allows users to purchase games and download them immediately. Activision's Call of Duty 2, GunT, Call of Duty, and Call of Duty: United Offensive are all now available.
On-demand game purchasing has risen with the increase in broadband penetration. Recently, For example, EBGames and GameStop launched a digital download store. "As broadband penetration continues to grow worldwide, offering our titles digitally to the millions of gamers connected through Steam makes sense to us," said Dave Anderson, Activision's senior director of business development, in aprepared statement
Steam has serviced more than 10 million customers, according to Valve. The online downloading platform has provided the first copies of Valve's own games like Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike.

^Well steam was plagued with problems, when it was first launched, ppl had problems with activation, updating etc. Hopefully the new version has sorted out the issues.

Does Valve's online shopping extend to India as well?

all you need a International Credit Card and 'your country' (I think they check it by your IP address / ISP gateway's IP) must be same as of the Credit Card owner.

To some extend if you have unlimited broadband internet, buying from STEAM is cheaper as no TONS OF INDIAN TAXs (import, export, entertainment, education, transport, sells, vat, profit) :S , but don't know about Credit Card's Service charge for on-line transctions.

Now-a-days, since I am using my STEAM a/c for a year, I didn't found any problem.

Yes it does. I bought Day of Defeat Source sometime back using Steam. It was for $20, and I got charged about 950 bux on my credit card statement. No extra taxes involved.
