SandForce-based solid state drives are very common these days. Today we are having a ADATA SP 900 256GB SATA III drive on our test bench. With there first release 28% of the storage capacity of these drives was used for over-provisioning. So if you had a 256GB drive you would actually get 200GB of available space. Then later this 28% was lower down to 7%, now SandForce has released a 0 provision that means 0% of the capacity is used for background activities.
The SP900 comes in a very attractive retail package. The front of the box has ADATA’s colorful trademark hummingbird, some features and a small pic of Notebook pack included with this ssd.
The rear of the box lists some attributes of solid state drives in several languages and picture of Usb3.0 enclosure.
The Box further contains a small box which has drive itself visible through a clear plastic.
Along with the drive itself, ADATA also includes a 3.5″ mounting bracket so you can install it in a standard HDD slot as well as all of the hardware you will need and a quickstart guide.
The Premier Pro SP900 is black and has a nice brushed aluminum finish. On the front there is a sticker that lets us know that this is the 256GB version of the SP900.
Flipping the drive over there is another sticker on the back with all of the important information on it including your Acronis True Image HD Key.
Sorry guys no other ssd so no comparison this time but still these tests will allow you to gauge how your SSD compares with this Adata SP900. I am posting screen shots of the benchmarks so you can easily recognize the results in the manner you are accustomed to seeing.

CRYSTALDISK MARK
Next we will test with Crystal Disk Mark. Crystal Disk Mark is a lightweight benchmark that has two parameters, Sequential and Random read/write, to evaluate the performance of a drive. Crystal Disk Mark’s default test uses random data and the writes in particular can be very punishing on SandForce drives. First up we will test with default random data.
HD TUNE
HDTune Pro is one of the most popular hard drive software suites available. It has many different benchmarks and tests built into it. Unlike the other benchmarks which just give averages, HD Tune gives us insight as to exactly what the drive is doing with its graph.

Conclusion
ADATA’s SP900 from the beginning gave me the impression that it’s mainly aimed at the daily PC user, and in that regard it gives very good performance. A generally fast drive, that can easily be an “unbeatable upgrade†especially if you are moving from a mechanical HDD, or a first generation SSD. The trim performance is also one more positive and the drive can recover very quickly from a used state back to close to new.
