hi guys...

i have finally decided to add 2 GB of RAM to my laptop Acer Aspire 1641 NWLMi.....(going to add 1 stick of 2 Gb so that i may use my current 256 MB, have 2 x 2156 MB, will have waste one....)

following are the specifications....DDR2 / 533MHz

guys can you please tell which brand to buy....what will be the price.....and from where ?

had enquired in Nehru Place....told me around 2-2.5 K for Transcend......

try lower prices :)
Get any RAM available so long as its DDR2. 667Mhz is probably easily available. Will automatically downclock to 533.

Also, would suggest you remove 256Mb stick and put in 2X1Gb sticks. 256 Mb of more RAM over 2Gb wont make that much of a difference, but the 2 sticks running in dual channel will probably get you better performance.

I picked up corsair 2Gb for <2.1k last month here.

which brand sir...

are u sure i must buy 2 x 1 gb ? ( final answer needed...have no expertise in hardware....)

anways...thanks for replying....

its not necessary tat you buy 2X 1gb sticks.. you can also buy 1X 2gb stick(an add to existing 256mb) ... but the performance of 2X1gb would be better as they would run on dual channel..

Exactly, though you can buy 1 X 2gb stick, performance of 2X1Gb would be better cos of dual channel :)

Also, I did mention the company, read again, corsair :P Much better than transcend too :)

my laptop supports ddr2 533mhz. so if i buy ddr2 667mhz ram will it work or will i have to buy a 533mhz only?

no issues.

the ram will automatically downclock to 533Mhz. No issues there. :D

I put the 2Gb stick into an EeePc. The RAM runs at something like <200Mhz  If that can work fine, urs will too :bleh:

Whats the performance difference like between 1*2gb and 2*1gb??
I mean exactly wat part of computing does it help??

2X1Gb will run in dual channel mode. Improves memory bandwidth and hence performance. (<5% though, but its still there :P)

Google for dual channel performance na :bleh:
