Hey Guys,

So i recently bought a laptop, Asus S550CM and I wanted to use my existing 2 monitors which are Samsung B2030 which has Dual DVI & VGA ports.

Now the laptop has VGA and HDMI port and I was thinking of using HDMI to DVI cable so i could connect it to the second monitor the only issue and a big one at that is when I connect a VGA cable to the Laptop the HDMI port is blocked.

So i was wondering how well do these work? they are HDMI Splitters from HDMI male to 2 HDMI Female.

I was thinking i'd get these and then buy 2 HDMI to DVI cables like

anyone has done something similar?

hdmi splitters like above usually don't work fine.there are issues like insufficient power resulting in reduced/cropped resolution etc not to mention you are trying to introduce an extra conversion/passthrough stage(DVI) resulting in more power/signal loss.

according to this link here it seems you can't use vga & hdmi both on digital output devices like lcd,vga has to be connected to analogue monitor & hdmi to digital for both to work simultaneously not to mention laptop screen will turn off since you can't use more than 2 outputs simultaneously with windows.

see this also for an example where someone successfully connected 3 monitors using a usb adapter:

I just realized that the hdmi splitter will only duplicate the desktops instead of extending :( defeats the purpose of using it.

and those USB to hdmi / dual dvi are damn costly.
