Need some info regarding this place/area .

1. how far this place is from technopark campus ?

2. how far this place is from tvm airport ? how much cab fare can i expect ?

is this a proper town area with necessary facilities nearby like atm( sbi , pnb ) , food places for daily meals etc . ?

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

Anybody known to this area ?

ulloor(medical college area) to Technopark is around 7~8Km, and ulloor to airtport is close to 15KM.

Taxi charges will be like 11~12/KM, but it doesnt matter as they will charge min fair like 500~600/- (especially from airport) even for short runs. Better take auto rickshaw from ulloor to technopark/airport if no heavy luggage. Charges will be like 10/km with min charges like rs 10/-.

Distance between ulloor and technopark - approximately 10kms

Distance between ulloor and tvm airport - approximately 11kms

No idea about the cab fare.

Ofcourse yes. Ulloor is bustling with all sorts of necessary facilities such as ATMs and hotels. :)

Thanx to both of u , this is the reason i love te , there is always somebody to answer your queries. :hap2:

@dominator . dude . i will have some heavy luggages . So what should be the best means to reach ulloor from airport and how much charges i need to shell out ?
lodging will be provided by my company in that address so i donot need to bother about that .

i just need some infos regarding the weather ( do i need to bring any winter clothing ? ) and food . any details regarding the place would be much appreciated as i am completely new to the place.

You may not be needing the winter clothing over here. It is usually hot and humid throughout the year.

Ulloor being located near medical college trivandrum has no dearth for hotels. Veg and non-veg restaurants line up on both the sides of the road.

During the morning hours (9am to 10:30am), the ulloor junction and the nearby roads tend to be clogged up with traffic. Works happen on both sides of the road (these works never seem to end because I have been seeing them since 2001) and is hence one of the cause for the traffic jams.

Any other small significant things in tvm to keep in mind ? :) Another thing how is the network of bsnl mobile and tata docomo gsm in tvm ? What are the typical keralite cuisines for daily meal .. :D ?

No winter clothing for sure, but be prepared for unexpected rains. About the transportation, lookout for larger autorickshaw (ape one: pronounced aapae' with aa as in hindi aa or 3-|). Charges will be same bit can handle luggages upto aound 50~60 KG at the rear and on the wider seat/foot board. Taxi guys at airport are looters.

BSNL and docomo has almost full coverage over tvm, no worries there (unless its a really remote place). About cuisines, veg or non-veg ?

if veg, then rice meal is nice, else masala dosa, ghee rost(thin dosa), porota , chapati, puri (fried in oil), biriyani(masala/mushroom/gobi etc), fried rice etc are good and can be found at all hotels. For something different, try puttu, idi appam, appam, paal appam etc are good and will be available at most hotels.

non veg > no idea :P

And no threats of dams breaching as tvm dist is safe :P

I am a typical non-veg , but can handle veg also.. :bleh: The large autorickshawes are availbl outside domestic terminal ? How much they charge per km ?

ape ones have somewhat same charge as other autos, maybe a bit more with the luggage, maybe 12~13/KM. And they are available outside easily.

See this thread on skyscrapers forums for some trivandrum cityscapes. The forum has a separate thread for technopark as well, as I gather you will be working there.

this is the normal one > http://cdn.karmakerala.com/images/stories/cars/Auto_Rickshaw.jpg

It doesnt have space at back for luggage and max 3 passengers on seat.

the ape ones has wider seats for 4 persons, and more leg space, even for some luggage, and has more area ab back. Can load from the rear, opening the window wraps.

If you have more luggage, say 50KG+, then a taxi would be better, but at much higher cost.

For easy finding, the ape one will have plastic grey front tyre cover with two headlights, while normal one has round, metal front tyre cover with one headlight over the front tyre cover. ape is spacey.

There might be, but not as intense as in some other cities in Kerala like Cochin/Ernakulam and Kottayam.

And not any BIG/scary kinda mosquito, just the normal ones.

There might be frequent protests/rallys going on in a dam issue.

^^ hey cochin is not so mosquito infested as people say, i lived at different locations for 6 years , and never found a mosquito near me :D

if u live near water bodies( marine drive for instance, then u are in for a battle :P) or near some factory ! otherwise, cochin's mosquito problems are blown out of proportion!

The root cause of the mosquito is the drainage system at cochin. Anyway, its improving but gradually. Trivandrum is much better in that dept compared to cochin.

Oh! this place.

Your PM was weird. fire away questions.

Airport / Railway to medical college/Ulloor via Auto. Youll get prepaid Auto's. For auto around 2 months back it was 150 or something. Cab, they are a massacre. So better stay away.

And better is wait for the volvo buses. Youll get there is 10 or 20 bucks. :D. but too much luggage.. hmm.

The ulloor to Kazhakootam(where TPark is ) road is being widened so traffic is there at peak hours. like 7.30~9.00 am and 5~7.30pm. TPark rush.

That area is a proper town so no dearth of stuff. everything youll get. Just avoid cheap hotels ok. Well tbh, it will better than some hotels INSIDE Tpark. :D. A

Buses will be plying across, go by that if u dont have a bike. dont go by auto. they rape your purse.

Any specific questions fire away.

If on Dec 21~26, except for Dec 25. u need any help let me know. I will be home for hols. :D
