Linux ADSL problem in Ubuntu Ultimate 2.5

I installed Ubuntu Ultimate 2.5 yesterday. Its awesome! Though i faced some problems like No drivers for my graphic card and no internet connection, I could sort out the first problem but not the second one:(.

The problem:

I changed my internet scheme last month. However I didn't change my Username:(. (My previous account is deactivated.) So now the username for both the accounts is the same.

In win xp there is an option called "Service provider:" where i enter the service provider name and thus i'm able to logon to other account. However i can't do so in linux.

Firstly, I could not establish a connection using the gui network applet. So decided to go the terminal way. I could establish a connection from terminal using "pppoeconf" but it logged on the old account which is deactivated.

The passwords for both the accounts is different. ubuntu by default got me connected to the previous account when i entered the password of that account however when i enter the password for the other account and see the status using "plog" it shows an error "CHAP authentication failed."

My isp is "Fivenet". The previous one was "Pacenet". Both are provided by the local cable walla.

Is there any way in which i can logon to the other account?

I was just searching and this is what i found:-

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pppoeconf/+bug/251241

My problem is exactly the same. HELP NEEDED!

Cant you just specify any other service provider? Like myprovider1 and myprovider2?

If dialup is the problem, try setting your modem/router in PPPoE mode and enter your user/pass in there... then Ubuntu will automatically get IP after the modem does the connetion...

Your thoughts seem to be more complicated than linux OS:bleh:.
what u mean by any other service provider? And its PPPoE=point to point protocol over ethernet. My connection is through my lan card, who needs modem nowadays.:ohyeah:

aaarrrhhhgggh ! :D i guess i dont know enough about your setup to suggest optimal solution. maybe others who have similar experience can. in the mean time, lots of googling will help for sure ...

Solved the problem!!!!!!

The problem was with the Access-Concentrator. My ISP has three of them.

Solution:

1. Use command

sudo pppoe-discovery eth0(eth =ethernet card 0=number. Since my system has only one ethernet card the number is 0) to check the concentrators provided by ur isp.

2. Download RP-PPPOE(i downloaded RP-PPPOE version 3.10). Entire installation procedure is explained in it.

3. Follow the procedure and use Internet.

:happy::happy::happy::happy::happy:Using Konquerer now to write this post. Its awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wow... not one, not two, but three access-concentrators for your isp huh? now its YOU that is talking stuff which is more complicated than linux OS itself :D
