Sure its the router and not a busy wifi neighbourhood ?

router modem. you tried the dlink & tp-link. what else is left ? the linksys ones.

Is there a new-er router out there, perhaps AC router? I dont care, I can go upto 3.5 to 4k too if it works well.

There is just one other wifi network. nothing else.

I initiated return of this router since the inbuilt server of the router keeps hanging. The web interface wont work and neither the wifi. While the client on lan was sometimes able to do it when wifi was not. Its a hot mess. Randomly I discovered devices had problem connecting to the wifi network.

Any suggestions for a new Router+ Modem?
Preferably ASAP.
Two routers failed one after another. I think problem is somewhere else. I know a network engineer, who goes by short name PM, who can visit your home and 'fix' things. PM'd you his number.

They didnt fail, they had niggles like disconnecting or dropping signals or timeouts. I didnt want to compromise and live with it for 5-6 years. A lot of people ignore or never notice such problems. To them its just "Internet down hai"

Why do you so much want to buy a router + inbuilt modem? Buy a cheaper modem (maybe use the old modem?) without wifi and buy a good router. Use the router (plus a switch if you require more wired connections) for your home networking. In India we anyway don't have high speeds, so a cheaper modem will serve the purpose of connecting to internet. Having a router alone opens the possibility of using open source firmwares (though routers with inbuilt modems support them but the modem function wont work).

Tp-link firmwares are really bad, but they make some good hardware. DD-WRT on tp-link has always resolved such issues for me and friends. And depending on the hardware you can use them as a torrent server, but the processor and ram has to be chosen carefully and checked for support.
