hey Guys,

I just got a cooler from the market section only to realize that the cooler send had the thermal paste completely used up. So I guess I gotta buy a thermal paste before I install the cooler.

Any ideas on which one to get ...need something cheap for maybe less than 500 bucks.

My PC config:
  • Processor: Intel i5 3570k
  • Motherboard: Asus Maximus Gene V
  • Cooler: Noctua N8 D14

As per what I have read the 'Deepcool Z5' beats even Arctic Silver which is pretty hard to digest. Is this true guys?

There is not much difference and you can choose any of the pastes from the top half of the chart. Availability in India will be an issue. The deepcool Z3/Z5/Z6 are available and also look good in the charts.

AS5 is way overpriced, check what is available in your local market. Otherwise check here.

I had bought my MX-2 from itwares but saw only Deepcool variants on his site now. You can check there if you want.

Whatever you buy, you won't need the entire tube for the CPU so you can look to split the cost with a friend and use up the entire tube at once. Trust me you won't need the remaining paste for use at a later time. It is better to buy a fresh one than using a 3 year old opened tube.

That price looks good as it is available abroad for around 7-8$. The price you see on ebay.in is inflated.

If the AS5 is available at the same price as Deepcool variants then go for AS5. Call up ITDepot and verify stock availability before paying.

Ordered on Friday midday and got this on Saturday itself. Applied on my Noctua NH D14.
I am still having issues wherein somehow processor speed is getting throttled to 1600Mhz :( even with Prime 95 running

Dunno why...did some research and looks like could be due to temperature issues.
I am not able to get it though....I have a great cooler, great paste, at idle the temps are around 35 degrees and at 100 percent load around 45 degrees (throttled speed of 1.6Ghz)...not sure how to handle this and free my PC

45 degrees will not cause throtelling at all..Intel chips will throtle only above 100 degrees. So there is something else which is a work here. Check the bios to see if you have any of the power saving features on. If they are then you will see the processor speed and voltage moving from time to time depending on the current load on the proccy.

Yup...I checked and disabled these.

This is what I did:
  • All the below is in stock speed for i5 3570k
  • Turned the windows settings (win 7) to 'Performance Mode' and restarted.
  • I could see that the processor multiplier was going to 38 from 16 earlier
  • Then I switched on prime95 and started the load testing
  • As soon as I strarted the load testing - the temps shot to 58-61 degrees and instantly the speed came down to 1600 Mhz with multiplier set to 16 automatically:(
  • I checked the windows setting and I could see that the settings have been auto readjusted to 'Balance Mode'....... Looks like some Asus and Windows settings at play here :(:( (WTF Asus and Windows are screwing me)

Un-insall ASUS AI Suite. And use bios to OC. Even I at times have issues with the AI Suite if thats what you have got working in there.
