I'm moving from Bangalore to Ahmedabad this week. Moving with basic necessities to survive there. Here is the list of stuff am/will be carrying with me.

Personal Stuff - 1 Suitcase + handbag: Not much of a problem

Problem Stuff:(marked in red)

CPU + Mobo
HDDs
Other Accessories from inside the case(fans/Ninja/CCFLs etc).
G15 Keyboard
headphones
AL MX5021
APC BackUPS
My Guitar

Not carrying the cabinet on my 22" Monitor. Leaving it for bro.

Some of it will fit in my suitcase and handbag(CPU/Mobo/HDDs)

Rest of the stuff will not be possible to carry with me in flight as each thing has its own little boxes.

If I send the remaining stuff by DTDC air cargo: It will cost me about rs. 4000-5000. Half of it if I choose ground shipping using DTDC.

Another option is carrying everything with me and taking the train, but no tickets available till this weekend so probably I'll have to take a flight.

My questions:
Is air shipping reliable? I dont want them throwing and breaking my stuff.
Some people suggested ground shipping is safer than air? true?
My guitar has a soft cover, no hard case. Is it possible to take it on flight without breaking it?

TIA :)

I would say a train is the best way to take something fragile - the movement is basically perodic and no "bumps" in the road - the only issue being getting it safely to the compartment.

I would recommend sending the bulky but not too fragile things - your speakers, the G15 & the UPS (which would have come with decent packing anyway) by ground shipping.

With some really leet packing I would ship the CCFL and stuff by ground too. -Try cramming the headphones into your suitcase itself.

The guitar IMO you should leave it behind and only take it when you are returning to A'bad by train or something, buy/borrow/steal a temp acoustic to tide you over meanwhile - I have seen people taking guitars on the plane with them but i don't recall where they stowed it.

They don't stow it anywhere, just put it on the nearest empty seat.

So far, I have not come across a situation where the seats were full and a guitar was left unseated.

Arya, you going eh.

Well like others suggested, best way to take all this stuff will be a train.

HDD and guitar are only things to be cared of while shifting. I have shifted from Delhi-Chennai-Delhi-Noida-Delhi-Patna in last 6 years and all (100%) things are intact but I used Agarwal packers and movers

Thanks man. Getting train tickets is difficult now. And man Airfare...just double of what it was a month back.

My speakers too :) and that's the biggest box. UPS and all are not much of a problem.

I'll probably take a flight and send rest of the stuff by ground shipping.

About packing, I dont want boxes(speakers, keyboard) to get damaged. What should I wrap them with? Newspaper or something else?

Guitar can wait :)

You can wrap the keyboard, MX's Sats and similar stuff with 1 or 2 layers of bubble wrap and tape them. This way you lessen the chance of these getting damaged.

guitar can go by hand luggage :)

i have carried my assembled cpu also in flights...just check it in with a fragile sticker

just assemble the cpu in the cabinet, and put it in its original box if u have it

guessing that the speakers and ups will come by shipping...coz they are bulky

yeah, just checked with Rio. He says I can carry guitar and a handbag in flight.

Cant take the box as its too much, and I'll have to disassemble it anyway. Moving it with heavy Ninja may break the board. I have a Jamaica already waiting at Ahmedabad, so I'd prefer to tuck all little things in my suitcase.

^^ be sure to mark it fragile :)

as long as the packing is alright, i've found that handling of the bags is not an issue
