Hi,

I am dying to lay hands on a big screen TV. For me the big screen means at least 42". Any smaller than that just doesnt cuts for me (I would rather continue with my 29" CRT TV). My budget is Rs 1 lakh max. Beyond that family wont allow :)
My requirement is watching DVDs only. I usually watch one or half movie a day or 3-4 over weekends (Usually Divx/Xvids downloaded from internet)

KF-E50A10 is a 50 inch Sony Grand Wega TV. Its a 3LCD(Lcos) rear projection TV and costs less than a lakh (I am yet to negotiate/discuss cost with dealers). Please let know whether you think it will be a good buy.

Ideally I would have bought an LCD TV, but I dont think that 50" LCD would ever cost less than a lakh even when they become readily available. Also I have heard that LCD display greater than 32" is not easy on eyes.
50" plasmas are available but cost more than 2 lakhs.

I am even willing to wait for a year to take LCD/plasma road but I dont think that even after an year 50" plasma/lcd display would ever cost less than 1 lakh.

Please advice.

I checked.. In Delhi the quoted price for Panasonic 42" plasma 42PA60H is 1.19 lakhs. 42PV60H is 1.60 lakhs

Ok, then price is comparable!

But please also consider that resolution of PA60 is just 852 x 480. Sony's 50A10 is HD-ready 1280 x 720. Then there is matter of difference in size (42" Vs 50"). What do you think?

Sorry..t interfere but just wanted to know if the 3LCD projection with HD -ready is better than plasmas or normal LCDs? cauz even i saw an add of sony 3lcd projection tv which boasted of being HD ready and superior video quality

so how are these tvs and whats the technology..behind it..is it recommended for watching dvd/tv..or for HD consoles like Xbox 360 or PS3 ?

i am asking this cauz dont have any info on this..and want to knw why is it cheaper than other LCD/plasma tvs...

also is the depth/breadth of the tv long cauz i found that the screen is as fat as normal crt tvs.is it true ?

Faheem, please get introduction of Rear projection Tv technology through Google and also try visiting some TV dealer to get familiar with them. This will answer most of your queries.

Guys, Sorry for being blunt, but I did not make this thread to educate people about Rear Projection! Lets not deviate from actual purpose.

Regarding suggestions of Panasonic Plasma PA60 over Sony 50A10 - Do you believe that lower resolution plasma will be better than this HD-ready TV? Also please note that its not some ordinary CRT rear projection. Its an Lcos (3LCD) rear projection.

Problems with rear projection TVs are the large size, and washed out images if the ambient light is high. If these issues don't bother you, then you can go for the Sony.
