MY CONFIG :
P4 2.4 GHZ 1MB L2 CACHE
512 mb DDR RAM
120 GB HDD
AND HIS MOBO .845 GVM WITH 4X AGP SLOT
17 " LG monitor..

i need to buy a 4x/8x (I THINK GFX CARDS ARE BACKWARD COMPATIABLE) agp card from a good comapny like xfx ,leadtek or anyother good comapny..
i need to play games like far cry...most wanted POP ..and other few..latest games..on medium settings..
the card should support pixel shader 2.0 ...
can some one please suggest a good card within max budget of 4k [\b]..which card is available in market for this price range.. ??
please suggest...with model no..cauz there are different..cards of different companies ..

ALSO whats the use of DVI output ?is it more clear than VGA ?what type of monitor do i need for DVI output ?

a 6200 128 MB card should be right up your alley for within 4K. If you could get a 256 megger for that go for it... For around 5.5K you'd probably be able to wrangle a 7300GS 256 MB...

Stay away from the turbocache range...

ATI's lower end cards not worth it IMO...
suggested brands - XFX, leadtek...

XFX Geforce 6200 Turbo Cache Edition ( 128 mb I Think ) is only 2.5k ! Thats the Best Deal in my Opinion ! Also u Might need to upgrade ur Ram to 1 GB for a smoother gameplay experience ! :)

Those TC cards are crap man... IYO doesn't matter one whit... why use main memory for gaming? And that slows down everything, just because of the CPU overhead involved...

Stick with the on turbo cache models pal, even if you pay more. Likewise a POS is ATi's hyper memory, performance sapping to say the least....

^^LOL turbocache won't work on his board anyway... you ppl use ur brains b4 suggesting... he has an 845 which means its AGP. Get a 6200AGP... will cost around 4k or better still get a second hand 6600GT/6800 vanilla.

^^ Exactly what I was thinking... TC doesnt work on AGP.

You could also check the market section, 6600GT's do come up regularly within your budget.

do u think i will get 6600gt agp in my budget (4k) ???i am getting a xfx 6600 non-gt agp .256 mb..for 3.5 k..should i get it ??will all games run on medium settings..and will the vista aero feature work ?

I'd suggest you to get a second-hand 6600GT . 6600 doesnt quite cut it . Yes however it can play games smoothly on medium settings depending upon the resolution . Newer games chokes it , older games are fine with it . Albeit with few stutters(:P) , you can expect it to play on high settings on a low resolution(800x600 or 1024x768) .

Its better to have 6600GT for better experience(yep its at least 40% better than a vanilla 6600 ) :) . Dont be surprised if you get disappointed with a 6600 when u play newer games :P .

Try to get another 512MB of RAM if possible ,will lead to smoother computing experience :D

oops , if your budget is 4K , better with a 6600 than a 6200 .

thats a fantastic price...not a bad card too...
yeah med settings for some good gaming on this minus oblivion minus BF2 minus FEAR and minus some fantastic new games in the near future and well minus and minus some more.

but really thats a good price for non GT 6600..:)
