Hi guys I need your advice.

I have three comps Comp1 – Internet machine with FreeProxy client configured so that the other 2 machines can connect to the net.

1. I’ve been advised to use a router with proxy capability which is a better option than using a software proxy. Which one would you recommend, pls suggest both Wired as well as Wireless (since I’ve a Mac laptop too).
2. Also Can file sharing software connect through these hardware proxies? I use utorrent and sometimes Frostwire or Shareaza without issues?
3. If yes they can connect through HW proxies then how come I cannot do the same for software proxy that I use. Inspite of configuring the ports etc I just couldn’t get utorrent working on my proxy machines, I download stuff from Comp1 which is directly connected to the net.

Pls Advise. BTW I use WinXP, Vista and Mac OS (my sis’s lappie)

It's actually pretty easy

but first, couple of qstns

- What OS does Comp 1 (gateway) run?

- What wireless hardware do you have on Comp 1

- How are the wired machines connected to the gateway

I guess I wasnt clear...Here are the answers to ur q...

1.Comp1 has WinXP SP2

2. I want to get a wireless or wired router...that's what I'masking

3. Through a DLINK switch

I want to know whether a HW router will be more robust than my current Software proxy as during the day it does tend to give a connection problem here and there.

Also can I connect directly thru it in case I want to as, certain software such as Steam Client app cannot connect thru proxy?

Will my file-sharing apps like utorrent and Frostwire and Shareza connect? They do no connect thru my software proxy setup (FreeProxy)?.

Alright got a Linksys WRTG2 router, so all's well. There are no torrent issues as I was scared about. Damn those internet sites that gave me the fear...lol
