Hi guys,
My current setup is
1. 2 computers (1 laptop and a PC)
2. 3 Internet connections(1 pacenet cable internet+1 mtnl with wired modem+reliance HSD card)

I am having 3 because pacenet is unreliable and so is MTNL and the idea is that I will have one up and running at any given time.

I am not exactly the guy who is interested in tweaking setups and MTNL and Pacenet guys advise me not to alternate the internet connections between the systems.

So, I am looking for a dual or a triple channel (I am not sure if triple channel exists:)) router which will help me connect 2 or 3 internet connections to 2 computers. I am not looking to use the internet connections simultaneously but I need atleast one to work at any given time.
Wireless router is preferred.
Thank in advance folks.

You're talking about a multiple WAN interface router. These don't come cheap! The only ones I know of are the Linksys RV series. The RV042 is the entry level unit with four LAN ports and two WAN ports for two internet connections. Not sure about the pricing. You'll have to check around. It's not wireless though. Not sure if there are any wireless units with multiple WAN ports. Unless DD-WRT or some third-party firmware allows you to do that.

Edrill, thanks for the reply. I asked around and the price for the router You suggested is around 9k.

Dual channel routers mean that they would be able to work on 2 channels ( 2.4 and 5.2 GHz), for dual WAN routers there are cheaper alternatives, but they require a DSL ( Damn Small Linux ) if you are running a PC or a DD-WRT firmware on a router. AFAIK LInksys has some routers which have this capability.

Check this link out : Road Runner Guide [Dual Wan Guide For DD-WRT Firmware]

Again if you are not comfortable running scripts or learning a bit of Linux then there is no cheaper way to go about this. As such the scripts run by themselves and need no knowledge of Linux but while troubleshooting ...... :)

9k is fine (A stretch but works). I will spend few thousand more than banging my head trying to get things work:)

So, the term dual channel is wrong here?

I should be looking for dual wan router? Also I believe I will be able to run two internet connections (cable internet and mtnl but no reliance netconnect). Right?

Can You kindly tell me some router models which will be suitable for my needs.

Thanks in advance:)

Actually with Asus RT-N16 you can run all three of them, awesome.. rite :) ( I am using ASUS RT-N16 these days)

But the problem is that you need to know some basic level of linux commands. Also i wouldn't suggest buying a RT-N16 specifically for this purpose as the 3G USB modem thing is still under work for normal users like us. It has already been developed and advanced users are using it. Hopefully it will trickle down to us when teddy adds it to the Tomato USB Branch.

Btw one more thing before i suggest you some routers, do you want a router which combines 2 wans or you want a router which makes use of the 2nd wan once the 1st one goes down. Difference is that the 1st option is load balancing 2nd option is for Fail Over. Or ... you want a router which does both these things..

Edit : Check this out : http://www.draytek.com/user/PdListbyCategory.php?action=LoadData&Typeid=61

Draytek has a good reputation when it comes to dual WAN solutions.

Note : Please read reviews before buying anything and read support forums for that device as well. At least that ways you will have an idea of what works and what doesn't. Don't rely solely on the advice given by any member who hasn't used the device ( including me ).

Awesome:)

I would like to have a router which will do both load balancing and fail over as reliance netconnect is limited and I will use it only when the other 2 fails. The rest of the time I would like to use the full power of the other 2 as they are unlimited

reliance netconnect is HSD and not 3g usb modem (the thumb drive sized thingy whose signals can be shaky at times) I will have a look at draytek, my local dealer says he can get a d-link one which will do the work and he quotes6.5k for it. Is d-link good?

Thanks for all the help:)

D-link is one of the better devices out there but some models have flaky 2nd Wan support. Be sure to check the review of the model he is going to get for you. Not worth spending 7K if there some problem with it.

Btw do keep in mind some routers don't maintain the state, as in if the packet should be going through 2nd wan or the 1st wan. generally its not a problem but with HTTPS it is. HTTPS won't allow you to maintain session with 2 different IP's.

All your banking, stock borking, MNC mail site etc have HTTPS.

It supports with Tomato if you are ready to learn russian :P
The thing is that a russian fellow made it work but as of now we can't use it because of this. Teddy is working on adding to the main Tomato ND USB branch.
