Hey everyone,

I want to purchase a sound card. Price range should be within 2.5k and the brand should not be Creative.

Can anyone help me? If possible, list the phone numbers of the vendors selling it as well.

Thanks,
Darth

any reason for not getting a creative?

The only reason for not getting a creative is that my speakers have had problems with the SBLive! 5.1 DE and SBLive! 24-bit soundcards (center speaker just wouldn't work in any case including the Creative speaker test). This problem does not happen with my onboard SoundMAX or any other non-Creative audio chipset. I am unable to see why the problem happens.

did u check all the speaker configurations regarding the centre channel?Things such as the speaker setup for 5.1 and not 4.1 and individual speaker volumes in the creative controll panel.

I get a feeling that if the subwoofer works then there is no reason fir the centre channel to not wo,save physical damage.

What speakers do u have?

All the configurations were correct. I did notice that if I stick my ear very close to the center speaker, there is a sound with the Live 24-bit but its just not loud enough to be heard at all. The subwoofer worked just fine. I must rule out physical damage to speakers because again the SoundMAX and C-Media sound cards do work correctly.

My speaker set is an older Artis model....the one named S5100 (5.1 speaker set). The thread you pointed out has a different problem then mine, as my center speaker does not work correctly even with the Creative speaker tests...

Ever tried playing 5.1 (ac3/DTS) stuff on it? playing stereo material upmixed to 5.1 will not give you s good center signal... alternately, tried reversing the sub and center connections ? I use mplayerc+ffdshow for checking these things... ffdshow has a 6 channel audio level meter, as well as a buit in channel switcher. On the other hand , getting a non CT soundcard aint all that bad, especially if you dont game much... I'm also curious if there is any good quality kit available at SB live prices...

:) :) Hey in all probability I know your prob...you have to make changes in the eax panel for all to play....
1. Go to the CMSS 3D. There are two options. Check the bottom option(I do not rem the name exactly).
2. Also keep the vol for front right and left speaker at 70%. The center and the rear speakers at 100%. Now play some MP3. It should work.:) :)

I have tried this. After enabling CMSS, all the four speakers work except the center speaker. Even in the Creative speaker tests, I cannot hear anything from the center speaker.
