Ok, so I am postponing my upgrade a lot, am currently on a X2 4000+, and its doing everything I want, playing games (at full hd, decent settings on a 9600GT), playing HD movies, et all. I was looking at i7 750 since its launch, and may buy it in April (its either I7+mobo+Ram, or an entry level DSLR :) )

In any case, I would like a decent after-market cooler which can handle a mild oc 24/7 on the i7 if I decide to upgrade, but till that time should have a mounting bracket for my current socket too.. Any suggestions?

I am looking at something which is VFM.

What is ur Budget for the same

You may go in for the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro it supports - Intel 1366, 1156, 775 and AMD AM3, AM2+, AM2 so you should be fine :)

Its the Best selling Cooler on Newegg has 3800 reviews :)

Price - 1690/- + Shipping

CoolerMaster's Hyper 212 'Plus', it supports Intel socket 775/1366/1156 and AMD 939/AM2/AM3 processors.

120mm PWM fan is supplied.

Its 2k INR IIRC, ask SMC and Amarbir, CM rep.

Only thing to worry is how exposed copper heatpipes will react to Mumbai's damp weather. My OCZ Vendetta 2 / OCZ Reapers RAM Heatsinks started to show signs of corrosion in a few weeks of use.

Scythe Mugen 2 is also VFM, priced @ 2.8k ~

Depending on weather your cabinet can accommodate full size tower coolers, you are better off buying a used high end cooler. There isn't any risk associated with using a used product in case of coolers, but you'll end up with a lot better solution at a lot cheaper price.

I saw a 120mm Core Contact Freezer a few days ago in the Market Section for about 1000rs, nothing gets better than that. Since you got a lot of time left before your upgrade, I guess it wouldn't hurt to wait for a proper deal.

750 is i5 not i7

don't buy Scythe Mugen 2 if you want your fingers ok

buy a Arctic Freezer 7 Pro

i would say Sunbeam CCF 120 @ 2.7k can handle not even normal but max overclock easily..

but installation on AMD sockets is a bit trickier.

@ Udit: correct, was a typo.

Sunbeam CCF will need to check if they have 1156 brackets. I guess looking at Appo's review will wait for the intoduction of Cogage, someone mentioned it should be for approx 2.3k.

Thanks for the tips.

im living in delhi, my Hyper 212 + has undergone some serious corrosion..

its a good cooler..

just a but lower than vendetta 2..

the direct contact of the copper pipes to the cpu looks impressive..but it has its downside..

the surface is not level at all..so you have to use lot of thermal paste to cover the cracks..

Cross the bridge when you come to it- guru speak- you know who. :)

Your upgrade is not a surity yet- what if you get a DSLR.

And that proposed mild OC may never materialise. :ashamed:

Think over the hsf when you get your new rig- the first few weeks you will be at stock clocks anyways.

(And prices usually tumble down or you may get a good deal on a used one in good condition just coz someone wants something newer/better/fancier/...) :)

Also, always start a query with a estimated budget.

VFM can be anything from someone's free Q6600 stock cooler on an E2180 to a Noctua U12P or a Corsair H50 or even a CM V10.

You posted the same in your sale thread- i have no right to post there unless buying something- so didn't comment earlier.

Have you read those 3800 reviews?

They begin somewhere in 2005 iirc.

And but obviously all those reviews cannot be for the newer rev.

Infact the bulk of them is for the older rev.

Newegg has as usual, replaced the older listing with the newer rev.

AC freezer 7 pro was an effective and too vfm a cooler.

Many bought it as it a 4-pin pwm fan similar to the oem cooler and had push-pins and didn't need mobo removal for iinstallation.

And most of the sales happened when newegg was selling one for $19.99 with free shipping and $ costed us 40-42 bucks. :).

They also had a ultra-low price sale (maybe clearance due to overstocking) at a few dollars- $2.5 or $5 iirc- for few days.

Sold like hot cakes in that period with many buying more than one at a time.

There is nothing wrong with suggesting something as one may think ok but please be careful of the reasoning presented for the same. :)
