Graphic Cards AGP 8X card on an AGP 4X MOBO???

I have an old motherboard supporting AGP 4X.....My older card conked off...I am a casual gamer so not interested in buying the hight end stuff....Just wanted to know whether I can install an 8X card in an AGP 4x Slot....Will there be any problems...

A card that is 4X/8X compatible will work, but never at 8X.

most of the currently selling 8X AGP cards are compatible with 4X.

They will work at 4x speeds, so dont expect optimum performance

Yes, all 8x cards are compatable with 4x too. but I have a exp where BIG's 6200 AGP didn't accepted by the famous ASUS A7N266-VM motherboard.

(just no disply, no error code, remove the card, works fine with on-board VGA)

Moral of the story, don't go for BIG. Borrow a AGP card from your friend to check it 1st.

Currently I'm running my 9800pro at 4X on my friends pc, cause his crappy iball 400watt hangs up the system when running at 8x, hardly a cople of frames difference in most games.
