Okay, so I saw this Airtel 3G pack

RC 200 - 500MB 3G DATA - 30 days validity

And I was pretty happy with it. I'm thinking of going ahead with it. Now I already know the speeds I get with Airtel 3G here, it's as fast as 200KB/s from my room. Good enough for me.

Now I want to know, will Airtel 3G be suitable for Skype and Nimuzz(audio) calls over the net without service breaks like call drops(because the internet got disconnected) and such problems? If it works, I would be saving hell loads of STD bills, and getting the video call feature too!

Also, will Airtel 3G by any chance give good pings for games? Like airtel Broadband gives me a 89 ping to TF2 starhub servers, will aitel 3G give something similar, even 120-130 ms would be great?

As long you are in the balcony or on the top of your building, it should work, definitely, no doubt about it. But move by five paces, and poof! call cut!

It will work, but it will consume your data at that speeds too. So keep an app running in the background that can measure b/w. also regards pings, runn the speedtest app and find out.

You are using android, right?

I have tried gaming using my airtel 3G connection, coincidentally on the same plan. I got pings of around 100-300 which means a lot of fluctuation and not good for gaming. Also I have noticed the connection getting noisy / disturbed / disconnected when I receive a call (mostly) or some other cellular activity. Not good for gaming definitely but that depends on the game too and the position of the cellular tower, which seems to be generous in your case.

If you are on Android then there is a free app to monitor usage which also gives an alarm when you reach a "set" limit. Very helpful since post GB consumption the 20p/30KB is a loot on Airtel.

For general surfing and even light youtube (tethered to PC) was good and fast.

Also from what I have noticed 3G isn't everywhere. You will be reverted to EVDO in such cases. Then you might notice call drops due to bandwidth restrictions. Only the comfort of your home will give you hassle free STD / VoIP calling. Moving around usually kills the connection.

speed is fine.. but games wont be smooth at all. Pings vary a lot. I have tried the Airtel 3g for games in chennai. It doesnt work. Although you can play facebook games without any issues. :P

I get around 6mbps speeds on my airtel and i use skype chat via phone alot, and never have the call got cut till now! if u have around 50% range , no issues !

whereas if you have low range, then its waste !

Using Nokia Symbian phone, will tether phone to Lappy for Skype from room (pathetic WiFi doesn't give signal except at Bathroom)

I can keep track of the data being consumed as Nokia Ovi Suite will keep updating me while I'm connected.
