Hi
I am very fed up of my current ISP.. I get low speeds @ day time and I can't download anything from Torrent.. Whenever I inquire about it the manager said we can't take reposibilty of torrent...

So today few Airtel salesman arrived at my house and showed me their plans. I was willing to change my ISP but 1'st I wanna inquire about it ..

1. How's the speed ? One of my friends has 128Ul and he gets a constant of 500kbps..
2. How is their speed with torrents.. I am not a torrent freak but sometimes I also download stuff from torrent and will I get good speed if better seader and leechers are there !
3. How is thier billing status ? I know its depends on usage but sometimes providers charge restlessly !? :@

Do let me know.. Since my modem [current] is in bridged mode . Do Airtel too provide modem in bridged mode [pppoE] or I have to configure it in Linux ?

Regards
Darky ;)

Dude i'm on airtel at the moment.

Have no issues with the Speeds. Im more than 100% sure there isn't any ISP in India (Atleast in NCR) which can provide better service to you than Airtel. Speeds are very good too. The only thing i didn't like earlier were the latencies i used to get on the Indian Gaming Servers , but nothing can be done about that especially when we have such poor quality servers on really downgraded ISP's Sify and such.

You won't regret switching to Airtel , trust me. :)

How can I contact them [Punjab] executive number ? I can't contact the CC as they were asking for Airtel Land line that I don't have and I don't wanna call that salesman :P So any relevant number that can come handy...

That Indiabroadband thread doesn't exists now :S ???

It still exists. Do not take airtel if you're planning to use it for "unlimited" downloading, my connection just got slashed to half the speed.. they should reduce the prices by half too after they slash the connection speed... Stay away from Airtel at the moment.. as far as service quality goes, airtel is very good, but now, when airtel fair usage policy(which I'd like to call Airtel Cheat The Customers Policy) has been implemented, stay away from it.. get bsnl, tataindicom wi-max etc.. no airtel! :@ :@

Exactly, if u are into downloading, stay away from Airtel at any costs.

Service is definitely good but the plans have become complete crap...

Frankly, airtel has zero downtime, good service and relatively cheap pricing.

As for the download limit, for Rs.999 you get 512Kbps of which you will almost always get >256Kbps and it is not very easy to exceed a limit of 25GB that too for too much time in any month.

So, airtel all the way.

Man leave airtel sharetel etc... Go for BSNL 2MB Home 500 plan.I am using since service started in India never had any problem.
In regards to speeds, I am getting download speed of 220~250KB(826MB data in 1 hour)
I am not forcing for BSNL just showing my experience.

and this is airtel
Speeds would be cut to half after crossing these limits:
256 - 10 GB
384 - 15 GB
512 - 25 GB
1 Mbps - 150 GB

Stay away from Airtel. If geeks won't then I don't know who will. Its only a matter of time, Airtel is very soon going to become the most hated ISP of India. Airtel is basically looting you in broad daylight with their fair usage policy. Even if you are not going to use your boadband 24/7, I would still suggest you to stay away from them or you are going to regret it later.

@Rite : Dude I can download approx. 120GB + of data in one month on the 512kbps speed, infact I do so most of the time. Even if you do not download that much the policy implemented by Airtel is clearly unfair.

Not opting for Airtel and also recommending against it is the least every techie can do to protest against their unfair policy. I would like atleast everyone from TE to support us in this matter. :)

Airtel = Reliable service, but plans suck way more than any other ISP so if you 're into heavy downloading, give it a miss.

Airtel is the best isp I hv ever seen,I am on 64kbps unlimited plan in which I get 200kbps constant and in night instead of 256kbps I get 2mbps superspeed;) .No caps for me:P as 64kbps is nowhere mentioned in their fair usage policy. But not everyone is lucky like me.:D

I am using airtel from the past 8 months and I hv never faced any downtime till date.Their customer service also rocks!!!

If u r not an heavy downloader then u can go ahead with airtel. Not recommended for heavy downloader after implementation of fair usage policy:@

Airtel CC Number For Non-Airtel User

Getting BSNL will be pain.. Lots of waiting :|

Also the site Broadband forum redirects doesn't list something like restriction on download :: Airtel :: Broadband Services - Tariffs - For You

In this situation i can tell you exact wait time.Do you have BSNL land Line?

I forget your area man :P poor memory :P By area it will be easy to know waiting, may be you will get connection in 2~4 days.

The stuff i am downloading by BSNL connection per month is near about 106 GB
