If everyone had thought that Vodafone was going to be the lone conductor on the Apple's iPhone Bus in India then Airtel just suprised us by catching the same bus and becoming the second conductor...:ohyeah::ohyeah:

Bharati Airtel today afternoon announced a tie-up with the US based Apple Inc to bring the GSM based iPhone to the country...:thumb:

"Bharati Airtel has signed a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to India later this year" Bharati Airtel said in a statement.

Airtel's announcement comes on close heels of the world's largest mobile phone operator Vodafone announcing last week to dstribute iPhone's in India by the year-end.

So this means Vodafone doesn’t have an exclusive deal for the iPhone in India and Airtel is planning another suprise around with the indication that the launch may be around the festive season of Diwali, which might mean a great Diwali gift to its over 65million subscribers.:D

If Airtel launches the Phone in Diwali ahead of Vodafone's release which is by the year-end then it would get the first movers advantage in the highly competitve Indian market. This would also might help in bringing down prices of the iPhone considerably -- with both telcos vying for a larger share of the Apple pie in India. And for customers, it may well mean good times lie ahead...:ohyeah::ohyeah:

I heard about this sometime back unofficially. And most likely Airtel will be launching the iPhone before Vodafone.

It's kind of a payback to Vodafone for ripping Airtel's Blackberry market.

Airtel will definitely be better than vodafone in selling iphones , since iphone is best used with internet access and vodafone happily rips of people when it comes to EDGE .

What do you mean rips people? Do they limit the speeds or something?

Hmm...

That's good new really. But, I guess Vodafone would re-schedule their release. If Airtel releases iPhone around Diwali then they have an advantage.

But, I guess the prices will come down a bit unless Vodafone and Airtel agree on price fixing.

But, these will be non-3G iPhones so, am not looking forward to it much coz 3G is round the corner. ;)

Prices will be 23k..and it will b launched ard dasherra....btw...its not exclusive contract with airtel...airtel will start first.......others will join later as far as what i read in todays newspaper

Airtels EDGE plans are significantly quicker and cheaper than Vodafone.

Not necessarily. If you are on a corporate plan it can be otherwise. I just pay a 100 bucks a month for unlimited mobile data access.

When Sunil Mittal and Arun Sarin are racing, can Anil Ambani be far behind? Its only a matter of a few days that R-Com will announce it too. Way to go competition ;-)

I don't care who else taking it.. Still waiting for the price in India... I think, it should not be more than 22k for 8GB one.

Why will you go for something that has been in the market from sometime now...on the top of that once Airtel n Vodafone will launch it here...you will find every other guy using it....so why not use those 22kz for a better product such as HTC's.
