Hey guys,

As a lot of guys here at TE are complaining about the AIRTEL's new FUP plans on their broadband; i am a victim of the same too.

i was using the 649 512kbps plans and i just got FUP;d where the same is 5gb.

I am an average downloader with a usage of around 40-50gb a month.

Now, after AIRTEL, i was considering my options and 2 ISP's fall into the category namely MTNL and RELIANCE.

MTNL has a 999 plan with 1 mbps speed and Reliance has the same for 1099.

Now, my question is..

1. DOES MTNL has a FUP like AIRTEL or is it unlimited like RELIANCE...??

2. I would require a WI-fi connection because i want to connect my phones too; so would it require me to purchase a 3rd party wifi router or does Reliance provides a wi-fi router which would support internet sharing. (i know MTNL provides one for 800rs and 75pm thereafter).

3. **MOST IMPORTANT** How is the service of Reliance in North Delhi..??..the speed, ping and CC..??

( a Few of my friends have MTNL, the speed is fine but wen it comes to CC; it sucks)

4. MTNL OR RELIANCE...??..thats the big question mark..i CANT stand DOWNTIMES and i know for a fact that airtel never gave me such problems in the past 1 year experience. Even if there was a downtimes the problem was fixed within 24 hours.. Which 1 of them is known for LESS downtimes...

Guys i really need to make this decision soon as i cannot stand the 256kbps FUP'd speed with airtel anymore.

1. DOES MTNL has a FUP like AIRTEL or is it unlimited like RELIANCE...??

Ans. No FUP, it is truly unlimited.

2. I would require a WI-fi connection because i want to connect my phones too; so would it require me to purchase a 3rd party wifi router or does Reliance provides a wi-fi router which would support internet sharing. (i know MTNL provides one for 800rs and 75pm thereafter).

Ans. You can use after market wi-fi router. Though reliance does not rents the router like MTNL.

3. **MOST IMPORTANT** How is the service of Reliance in North Delhi..??..the speed, ping and CC..??

Ans. Since I'm MTNL user so can not comment on Reliance's speed and pings. For MTNL, never call CC just lodge an online complaint on their main site and they'll definitely get back to you in 32hrs. (Thats what my personal experience says.)

Ans. I'm one of the happiest MTNL consumer and had a downtime only 2 times in complete 3 and a half years, that too at the starting time.

I hope my post will help u a bit.

OT : Where exactly are u in North Delhi. I'm in rohini, sec=7.

^^^ that was really helpful..

i put up at shalimar bagh.

which plan are you using..??

and are you using wifi or a wired connection...??

so, do u pay 75 Rs pm to mtnl or do you have a 3rd part router...??
u can get 3rd party wi-fi router for as little as ~1.2k with 2-3 yrs warranty from Belkin/Asus. Better buy them than pay Rs.75 per month which comes abt Rs.900 for a year.

I'm using MTNL for 5 years now. Presently on TriB Combo plan, that was 256kbps unlimited for 599 p.m. but MTNL upped the speed to 512kbps at the same price, and now I'm connected at downstream 571 kbps and upstream 511kbps, located around 3kms from Rohini Sector-3 exchange. Actual download speeds I get are around 500 kbps.

I'm using my own Netgear DG834G WiFi ADSL Modem-Router combo.

Customer care ... well call center is a bunch of useless aunties. But twice I had real problems (once billing issue and another time, package shift) and I sent emails to the top guys; as a result a whole army of MTNL guys came running to resolve the issue. The email IDs of all top guys is listed on the website, and they do respond pretty fast. So far as line issues are concerned, a call to the IVR complaint handling system works fine and responds within 24 hours. In fact, I don't know about other areas in general, but in our area, the lineman has given his mobile number and, for some reason, has requested people to call him directly instead of making a complaint, and this works even faster.

There is not much of a downtime lately. About 2 years back, it used to be like a day each month; these days it is something like half a day in about 5 months. I face some issues with MTNL DNS servers, but I guess that's no big deal since you can always use third-party DNS servers like OpenDNS.

I do make it a point to save all documentation and correspondence with MTNL carefully, who knows ... this helped me once in billing issue and once when I had surrendered the MTNL router but MTNL continued to charge me the rent for it (but then, generally I'm like that with all my official paperwork and stuff).

Overall, I'm quite satisfied with MTNL.
