How can I get a micro SIM card from Airtel for my existing connection. Do I have to give away my current SIM card. Can both regular SIM card and miro SIM card work in separate devices? Should I try cutting it myself?

Most recharge wala guys have a cutter. And they will cut your Sim for you for a fee. It ranges from 10/- to 50/-. And if you go to the airtel gallery, you will have to surrender your current Sim and they will issue a replacement micro Sim in a few minutes for a nominal fee, could be upto 99/- bucks. And you might need to submit a copy of the document you used to purchase the original Sim (Vodafone had me submit mine). As for the 2 sims with the same number part, you will have to ask the gallery or customer care, though its highly unlikely you would be allowed that.

Go to Airtel office and ask them to give you micro sim for your existing connection but your old sim would be deactivated after that.

Don't cut it with blade try getting a cheap sim cutter or go to a any local mobile shop ask them to do it for you they would charge you only ₹10~20/- for this. Don't throwout the outer residue after cutting the sim you could use it in future by fixing your micro sim inside that to use it as a normal sim.

Thank you both. Is there a difference between a micro SIM card and nano SIM card? Can I cut it myself using cutter? What if I damage the SIM? Sorry for too many questions but don't want to end up with a non working mobile phone.

Nano SIM is smaller than the Micro SIM. While cutting the SIM using cutter yourself, please check using it before a spare-non-working SIM if you have any. In my town shops who are cutting the SIMs put notice that they won't be responsible if SIM is damaged in process. I prefer getting a Micro/Nano SIM from provider itself.

On little off-topic, Reliance web world do not have Micro SIM in my town.

I changed my regular sim to micro sim a little while ago. Went to the airtel shop. Paid 25/- fee. 1 Photo+1 id proof+1 address proof. Old sim was deactivated and new one activated in 4 hrs time. It was a prepaid sim. The existing balance was transferred.

On the other hand, my neighbor went to a neighborhood mobile shop for a microsim. That guy too 1 hr and 4 attempts before he could stamp out a working microsim from the regular one.

Regards,
Mohit
