Laptops Alienware Laptop

Though it looks nice, you should be more worried about the warranty coverage, are you getting it from a friend/relative or do your regularly take trips to US? if it's the former, don't get Alienware, get Dell, HP or Similar, which offer better overall warranty (no idea whether they offer worldwide warranty though, they probably don't too) imported laptop is only good till it's running without problems. let's not forget how utterly fragile laptops are (normals ones anyway) get a laptop with a nice warranty. You can something the lines of Dell Inspiron E1505, Sony VAIO VGN-N130G etc. ofcourse if you want a laptop to show off, you can also go on the lines with iBuyPower Series of Laptops. besides, as far as i know, there's not much price difference between US and INR of Laptops, you can get a Laptop from here too, it won't be Alienware but you will get a nice warranty. hope this helped :)

You get a mac book with a higher configuration for the same price. Doesn't look too good from the specs..also doesn't make much sense to buy a DX9 laptop when DX 10s are already coming out.

also ........ i would not recommend getting a VAIO from US coz there is no warranty coverage here.......getting HP is ok.....alienware seems nice but is not VFM...good for show off tho :)

Can't show off something if it's broken. can you?

iMacs.... depends on personal preference, some people thinks Apple Products are overpriced POS, many thing they're god's gift to Macnians (i made that up) with shiny interface.

I'll probably get flamed for saying anything against Apple, but what the heck, Don't get iMac, let's be honest here, OS TEN has very limited support in terms of hardware and software. iMacs have the keyboard built into the chassis so even a little spill means the white thing will die. get either Dell or HP. Sorry but just because you add a "i" to everything you sell and paint it in Blindingly white or grey doesn't mean you get the rights to charge heaven and earth for it.

as far DX10 Cards in Laptops are concerned. you need to realize that at a budget of $1,000 you'll only get a entry level DX10 Card (8400GS prolly), No practical use considering there no DX10 games available and those who are (LP: EC, CoJ, CoH v1.7) Make even the 8800GTX and 8800Ultra Crawl. DX10 is quite simply too immature right now, the technology is new and hence will take some time, it's never a wise idea to be a early adopter unless you have money to waste. besides, last time i checked, No DX10 Laptops were available (please correct me if i am wrong) Entry Level Laptops with DX9 are not for today's games anyway. if you want to buy a laptop to play current gen games, you won't get it in $1,000. ASUS and iBuyPower have some nice Gaming laptops though.

^ rightly said.

for todays games i think you'll have to increase your budget a little.

those alienware laptops do seem overpriced.

i had seen a really nice config for $1000 somewhere, but i just dont remember where. ill try to find it if possible.:)

i too advice you to go for hp/compaq or dell.

My main purpose aint gaming .. i think u got the idea of gaming from alienware range :P .

Gaming in laptop isnt my thing as i am not comfertable with these lappie keybs...

btw since u guys hav pretty much convinced me to buy a laptop from here... can u guys suggest a nice laptop for 45-50k range...

btw repped all who hav given suggestions :)

Alienware laptops are based on the clevo design and hence are pretty good in terms of build quality.. And you have to admit, they are pretty good looking too.

But nevertheless, they are a little overpriced for their config when compared to equivalent configs from other brands.

Moreover, their support seems have mixed response with some claims that their after sales support sucks while other claim it is pretty good.

All in all, if you are gonna take the laptop from us and use it india, i would suggest against it unless you have relatives in US who can ship it in case of any warranty issues. :)

i think hp/compaq provides global warranty. im not sure, someone else might be knowing.

HP, Lenovo, Dell, Asus offer global warranty but the term global warranty may be subject to a lot of clauses like exclusivety of model from bought from country, taken years of warranty etc etc.

So its best to confirm the terms and conditions of global warranty before taking a particular model from the manufacturer. :)

The Problem about Laptops are is that unless you buy, something like Panasonic ToughBook or something similar. most laptops can't take a beating, I don't mean that people who rapidly punch or drop the laptops but all this carring around. it takes a toll, When it comes down to it, Laptops are seriously fragile and a good warranty is what you should look first, then the specs and so on.

I recommend you get Dell Inspiron 6400 For Around Rs.48,700/-

ins6400.jpg

It has Core 2 T5300 1.7GHz Processor, 512MB Ram DDR2 667MHz Ram (FREE Upgrade to 1GB DDR2 667MHz), 80GB SATA HDD (FREE Upgrade to 120GB SATA HDD), 8x DVD-Writer, 15" Widescreen Display (1280x800 Resolution) and comes with Windows Vista Home Basic (You can always change the OS) the graphics are handled by Intel GMA950. It also has both Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) and Bluetooth. pretty sweet if you ask me, it's really great for usual stuff, Downloading, Office, Watching Movies, Music etc. not that good for gaming but you already made clear you're not interested in a gaming laptop :)

Hope this helped :)
