Reason for Sale
Not in use
Selling my 6 year old Alienware m15 (2019). I used it regularly for gaming till Mar 2022. After that it was being used by my cousin for design work, for the 100% sRGB display, till Oct 2024. Not being used since then. I repasted it with Arctic MX4 yesterday but I was using Kryonaut earlier when I was using it for gaming.

Gaming performance will be better than RTX 3050 based laptops or at least similar to it as RTX 2060 notebook > RTX 3050 notebook GPU. The i7 8750H is inferior to something like R5 5600H but can still hold its own.

Specs:
  • i7 8750H (6c/12t)
  • RTX 2060 80W
  • 15.6" 1080p 144Hz 100%sRGB panel
  • 60Wh battery (10% wear, realistically expect battery life of ~3hrs with web browsing & other light usage)
  • Single-zone RGB keyboard
  • 180W power adapter
  • 1TB Intel 660p (39.5 TBW)
  • 2x M.2 NVMe slots (one of them supports SATA as well)
  • 1x 2.5" HDD/SSD slot
Accessories included:
Issues with the laptop:
  • Slight distortion in speakers at max volume, not noticeable for music, but noticeable for Windows notification sounds
  • 1 screw missing from bottom cover
  • Wear & tear of rubber parts, like lining around the display & laptop's feet. No issue with palm rest though.
  • Scratches here & there
  • Display is misaligned, happened when the panel was replaced, didn't notice it at repair shop. Display is sitting slightly lower than the bezels, thus bottom few rows of pixels are not visible. More of an annoyance than an issue, can open it up & try to fix it.

Let me know if more testing is required.

PART 2:

Annoyances:
  • Heating - But that was the default behaviour ever since it was new (Dave2D's review of this model is grossly misleading, can check Jarrod Tech's review which shows the default behaviour)
  • Solution to Heating:
    • CPU UV: -125mV is stable with 3.6GHz freq limit & 25W power limit (have the Throttlestop profile & required BIOS). DO NOT update BIOS to the latest version.
    • Raise the back of the laptop or use a laptop cooler
    • GPU UV: Recommended, I had a UV in MSI Afterburner till 2022, which resulted in 5% performance loss, but GPU power draw dropped from 80W to 65W (don't have the profile)
  • HWInfo does not show GPU power directly for some reason, but shows it in a different line item (noticed it last year but GPU power draw does indeed go up to 80)
  • Slight battery drop when plugged in & gaming - Default behaviour

Repairs made:
  • Nov 2020 - Battery & heatsink replaced
  • Feb 2023 - Display replaced
Display misalignment (notice how last few rows of pixel isn't visible in 1st pic but visible in 2nd):
