PC Peripherals All-in-one Printer (with fax) - with good photo quality

Dear folks,

I am in the lookout for a decent all-in-one printer (with fax, scan, copy). I am really getting confused with the plethora of models available in the market.

My priorities are:

1. Economic running costs for B&W prints - prefer printers with large cartridges @ lower per ml cost.

2. Good photo printing ability. I have a lot lot of pictures I need to print.

3. As mentioned above, I need fax, scan, copy.

4. Brand preference. Sseems like Canon has very poor after-sales support. Therefore, prefer Epson and Canon

Please help guys.

I had narrowed down a few models:

1. Epson Stylus CX9300F

2. HP C6188

3. HP OfficeJet 5600

TIA,

Doc Holliday

I own the HP C4188 AIO and let me say its a real charm, printing BnW's is really economical . With moderate printing , i've only used 2 cartridges till date ( 1 yr ) . I went out and got another C4188 for my neighbour as well which went kaput in 1 month. Wen I took it to the HP service center they UPGRADED me free of cost to the 'next' higher model of the C series !!....so HP warranty claims are rock solid as well......its n 'HP' afterall , I would suggest u go with HP. Make sure u buy the 'extended' warranty plans they have for complete peace of mind after the initial warranty claim period of 1 yr is over :)

Edit : forgot to mention the C serier are preety compact...however when the printing starts they do make a lil noise once it starts printing it doesnt matter......it can even give u good catch practise if the out tray is not pulled off .....once done printing it will throw out the paper as in meaning ....' here , take it !!...arrogant ! ..."

Hey Hanzy,

Thanks.

I am getting confused with so many models to choose from. What about the photo print quality?

Also, I was looking at C4348

These are "Photosmart" printers :) so don't be bothered abt photo quality , they will be just excellent , i have printed out 'n' number of pictures on photopapers and people have asked me if i have got them printed at the nearby photo lab !......the link that u posted is a nice AIO as well......!....pick the cheapest one according to your requirement.........

I am also clueless about printers, got the HP 5610 just yesterday for 8.5k, it has document feeder based scanning/copying and also has a "glass table" with raisable flap so you can copy stuff other than flat pages (like say a book or passport or whatever) - it does not have a phone handle, but has fax and you can connect a phone via the printer... plus, it got detected and works fine under Ubuntu Hardy :)

Been doing a little research and seems like the ones which use multi-color cartridges work cheaper than the ones that use one color cartridges. This way you only replace one cartridge, the one that runs dry, rather than the single color cartridge. How many does the 5610 use?

Or the C4348 or C6188?

i guess the problem with a multicolour is what if you print a lot of one colour, say red, then the cartridge runs out of only red and you have the replace the whole thing...

^ its a bit complicated....say u run on RBG cartriges , it all depends on the printing , for eg. when R is over , u go and get R....admist of printing something your G runs out !....so you go out and get the G cartridge......on the other hand , in a single cartridge u go and get a single cartridge....but somewhat different here , if R runs out u need to get complete new set.......

so :

1) multicolor graphic color printing - single cartridge

2) mono colors for eg. u going to do a lot of printing using a specific color only then u need to settle for the different cartrdige system.....

Well, I called up the regional HP Manager and here is his take on things.

A PhotoSmart HP printer is good for photos, but expensive when it comes to B&W printing, up to Rs. 2.50/- per page - here it starts hurting you.

Suggested I take L7380

for normal printing/office work (up to Rs 1/- per page in B&W)

and

either a D5368

or a D7368

for pictures.

OR ELSE

Take a C7288

a single device, but then bear the brunt of expensive B&W prints.

Hi folks,

I finally went ahead and bought the HP PhotoSmart C7288. Cost me something like 16k.

I like it in the sense that it works very fast, is wireless, and give decent printouts - fast. The fax, scan, copy is a boon for my office.

Do you mean this one?

It is a good product no doubt, but uses 2 cartridges, one color and one black compared to the C7200 series which uses 6 cartridges

Hi,

Sorry guys (and mods), I just could not resist to putting up a picture of my recent buy. Please forgive the picture quality, it is with the P1i in poor light conditions.
