All Nokia 5800 XM handsets made before February have a major defect! They have a defective speaker that WILL die within a few months and will have to be replaced.:S iḿ sure there are TE users who bought this phone before Feb

Those of you who have read the mobile-review article, did you notice that it mentioned them using an electron microscope to see the surface of the contacts of the earpiece.

From where did they get an electron microscope???

Again in a later part of the article, they said that they did not have any accurate instrument to see the contact surface of earpiece in 3rd box to say definitively if the surface of the contacts had changed or not and if an oxide layer was present.

They need something more accurate than an electon microscope ! ! ! !
 
I agree with u. This looks like to be a bluff. And all HTC guys, just go and search for HTC complaints. Horrible phone.

Agree to that.... I was locking on one HTC phone... But due to the feedback it had, I backed out.... and I feel that I will not like the windows mobile....:bleh:

yaaawn!!!! seriously guys stop dissing this phone so much. It aint half bad you know. Use it for a month and tell me that it sucks and i may believe you.

Regarding the problem with the speakers i havent faced it so far and if it does come up ill just get it repaired at Nokia care...that's what the 1 year warranty is for...

it is actually a minor problem with the contact points of the ear piece. I bought my phone in January but dont have this problem yet !!! so these headlines of all phones being defective is false.

Dude its not false man nokia has admitted to it ....
¨Here’s Nokia’s official statement on the matter:

The problematic speakers were replaced with speakers from another supplier, both in production and warehouses. I’d like to emphasize that we have replaced not only the speakers but also their supplier, i.e. at the moment we use speakers from the new supplier at our manufacturing plants, as well as in our service centers. It is very easy to confirm this, because the new speakers are visually different (see the picture above.)

Service centers started receiving the new speakers during the last decade of January, so all users who replaced the speakers since then shouldn’t face this problem.

It should be also noted that Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is one of our focus products, so its sales were watched carefully by our R&D department from the beginning; and, as soon as we heard about this matter, an R&D rep was dispatched to Russia to work on the problem on site.

The secondary replacement issues reported by Mobile-Review were related to the first phones and, at that moment, there was no solution to the problem, so the defective speakers were replaced with speakers from the same (at that time) supplier. When the problem was studied more carefully and it became clear that the new speakers (from the same supplier) do not solve the problem, the supplier was changed, the plants started putting new speakers in, and service centers started getting speakers from the new supplier too. I can not name the supplier of the defective speakers, but it is a very respected company with a world-known name, whose quality of products nobody doubted. But, unfortunately, these things happen, most likely, to everyone.

It should be emphasized that, for these kinds of quantities, and for a global company like Nokia, to solve a problem within a month is a very short time. Sure, a record number of devices were sold during December, and fewer buyers would have been faced with this problem if the sales had been lower. But please believe me, we have been seriously working on the speaker quality problem and we think that, for the moment, the problem is solved.

So, the 5800 XpressMusic can now be bought without any fears. And if you had to replace your speakers, from the end of January – everything should be all right; if you bought the phone earlier and you have problems, now they can truly be solved in service centers by replacing the speakers.

but my phone and lakhs of other phones are working fine so far at least. How do you explain that ??
There is no denying that a problem does exist but it is not for ALL 5800XM phones as you have mentioned in the title of your thread.

Great man you have read the news much before i had posted ...did i write anything like Flash news only for Obama :hap5: or something...it was just kinda like advisory or something i thought i would share with people who don't know.....And if your phones and lakhs of other phones are working fine soooooooo far that's great ...nothing to it...:hap2:

And me explaining why all those lakhs of other phones and your phones working :S

Dude i had read this advisory from Nokia, on some other symbian focused site, much before you had done copy / paste here, that is what i had meant.

you have much difficulty in understanding such basic stuff ?

hehe, if you guys think we, the buyer's of this phone here in India, are having problems look what is happening in the US market.

if you analyse the info. there is / was a problem with the AT&T network. not with the phones.

Edit: Now i just hope that nobody makes a thread with "Millions of flawed Nokia 5800XM" etc...in the title here.
