It all began as a series of unfortunate events on 16/05/06(well i realised that later)...working as an intern at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital (LTMGH) i have to reach wards by 8 am sharp... but mondays i have my emergency(means i have to work for atleast 28hrs straight) but this monday all interns were on strike...so instead of 8 am i had to reach wards by 7 am.
On reaching the wards the first order of the day is always blood collection for routine investigations...but tuesdays are post-emerg which means atleast 15 blood collections...
So this is how it began...first i couldnt find good veins on a couple of patients and had to prick them twice(which sucks! ) it took me almost 2 hrs doin this.. then i was told i had to accompany a pt to Kasturba Hosp for HBOT (hyperbarbic oxygen therapy) and unfortunately for me the pt had been started on a drip of blood(no intern wants to accompany such a pt)
On reaching Kasturba Hosp...got the pt in the ward and was waiting for the blood drip to be over...when the drip was over i had to disconnect the blood line and while doin so since the 3way was a lil jammed i spilt some blood on my hands n the floor...
Being a lil excited as i blood on my bare hands i rushed to the washroom to wash my hands...and while i did that my phone fell in a bucket of water!!
And that was that...the display was gone and my phone(nokia 6255) was making weird noises..i removed the battery n the memomy card...i thought that this was the end of the phone...
While gettin the pt back to LTMGH all i could think of was the phone....after the pt was back in the ward..i rushed to the nokia service centre at phoenix mills....but as luck would have it i was fined for speeding...was doin 72kmph on the 40kmph flyover!! 200 bucks wasted!!
Then after waiting for almost 1.5hrs at the service centre i was told there was no hope for my phone but they would try and asked me to get back in 3 days
Out of curiosity i called nokia care today and i was in for a pleasant suprise...not only was my phone working but i wasnt charged a rupee!!
And this was a phone which had mist all over the lcd n the camera yesterday!!
Heck i didnt even loose my data!! Truly amazing i must say!! :hap2: :hap2:

I am just damm happy that my phone is working fine!! and wat grr8 service...phone was ready within a days time!!

thats because you sincerely did your duties and luck favoured at last :P

btw when i was intern we never used to get so much responsibility. it was a different point that i got a lot of surgical work because of my sincerity. i used to do appendicectomy, open abdomen for laparotomy, amputations.

those were the days now a days stuck with tiny holes and micro surgeries.

^^ now all that we get is CLW's and if at in the OT its max washin up n assisting(if u are xtremely lucky) otherwise the routine during OT is trace investigation , arrange blood , shift/transfer pts...

And ya the blood collections!! Dr Acula! (as J.D. puts it!!) :hap2:

its said that if mishaps happens three times and u still get to square one... then u can be assured for life ki aagey kuch nahi hoga ...

U game for that ... ?? :P

js kiddin ..

U did u duty .. u got rewarded.. happy for u ..

yes i was too lucky when i was in my internship.

as such my institute also gives a lot of work to residents while in their pg that they can straight away start their own practice. (BJMC ABAD and CIVIL HOSPITAL AHMEDBAD)

btw from where did you do your ug? and weren`t you on strike? ( i take that you are in your internship and you were supposed to be on strike) :P

i did my ug from Rajeev Gandhi Medical College , Thane and doin my internship at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital ....
And yeah we were on a token strike on Monday 15/5/06

^^ to be honest i am shit scared....but you cant let the disease part bother you or you'll never be able to work as a doc!

But if u take the right precautions you'll always be safe so no worries :D

these days no body allows a laprotomy to an intern.

in my hospital, we r cheap labour, collection of sample, paper work, dressing, damn.and ya emergency is tiring,,, very much so.

hey wraith.... do u guys do periphery posting in PSM????

btw, reaally good fr u.. apt title

@ hummer :
interns are always ponnies everywhere.
i do not know what options you have there, but when i was in internship we had a luxury of choosing any hospital of gujarat. I chose my home town hospital and i was the only one interested in working remaining 9 people were just attending general opd and run away in 2 hours.

@aces170
if we start to get scared about contracting diseases straight away we may loose our livelyhood. its the part of profession and if you are carefull you are as safe as anyone.

I dunno its pretty scary, one of neighbours is an intern too, she many a times have pricked herself while giving injections etc... And treating patients in of the govt hospitals in Mumbai, its a tad dangerous I feel.

@hummer : ya we do have periphery posting under PSM...i guess my next posting is gonna be PSM and for periphery i am gonna get posted to Vashind which quite far on the central line!!!

OT : today i got to wash-up for a split skin graft for a diabetic foot!!
