hey...finally got the Altec's ......

Look realy like a heavy setup.....but will not put whole of the house on fire....
more than sufficint for a room....

Bass is not verry gud...actually it's jst very tight....not much of heavy bass....
currently using it on a dell laptop with creative 2.1 sound card....

Remote comes very very handy.......it's the best thing in the package.....

just wanna know a few things...

1) will a sound card like Asus Xonar D2X/DX make a significant change in sound quality...
2) SMC sardaar ji was asking me to go for Logitech 2300 bcoz of it's heavy bass...but as I have purchased Altec...can I attach some other woofer along with it to hace some more bass effect...
3) Wt's the auxiliary output on wired control for ?

you can change the bass/treble to make the sound suit your taste :)

The DX/D2X can enhance the clarity, but I dont think it will do anything about the bass.

you can try dsp plugins like jammix to play around with your bass

the auxillary input is for you to connect an mp3 player , or another audio source.

BUT can I attach some other woofer to the 2.1 speakers to get extra bass effect...?

like if I attach a woofer and a speaker in the same slot meant for a speaker.. ?

can I have some woofer with gud bass for less than 2K ?

and about the sound card....apart of quality....do sound card has to do something with sound intensity (loudness) ?

well, you can get dedicated subwoofers, but they cost >10k.

any sub which costs <2k will only make your setup sound worse :bleh:

dude , all you have to do is turn the treble down and/or turn the bass up. why cant you do that :S

or , try the plugin i mentioned. It gives good results. The MX is capable of a lot more bass than it makes by default. think of it as speaker overclocking :P

no, the sound card doesnt have much to do with the intensity.

thanx a lot buddy........

U really know a lot how to use smilies......

I have set my.......treble at.....2/5........bass....4/5.....

and the plugin you mentioned will be only for winamp.....but I use Windows Media Player ....

I think...inspite of a sub-woofer...i wil have to use sound card and plugins...but they will cost me more than 15K's....I shud have gone for z-5500..but now I have to make this work good.....

dude if you wanted bass, the Z2300 should have been enough. You wont like it now , but you'll gradually begin to start falling in love with the sound quality of the MX. and a day will come when you think the bass you once craved was obscene. It may not sound impressive now. but it is better sound :)

a person getting an MX 5021 as compared to regular speakers is like comparing fine wine to local liqour :P . The MX is a class apart. while it may not give quantity, it sure gives adequate quality. you'll learn to appreciate its sound, and throw away the eq altogether. I know i did !

if you're using WMP, use its equalizer :)

My advice, leave the soundcard and plugins alone. You'll soon begin to appreciate the purity of the music .

PS: what soundcard do you have ?

i HAVE TO GET A SOUND CARD....

actually i was very much inclined to ASUS XONAR D2X.......

But just now the DX version is out......

which 1 to go for....now I can go upto 7-8K's for a card ....

I posted a thread too aboput the driver problem in D2X....

actully ASUS has come up with some DirectSound GX 2.0 .....that emulates EAX 5.0.....

but it's available only for the DX version in XP.........

and for D2X the update of driver in XP does'nt inclute the DS3D GX 2.0 update........

and I have to use XP........

dude , if you just want more bass, a soundcard WILL NOT help you at all. it will just increase the clarity, which apparently doesnt make much of a difference to you

dude , people say it is good because it meets their standards and requirements, music is like food, induvidual people have different tastes. Just because 90% of the world thinks that something is good doesnt mean you have to like it.

Try the jammix plugin on winamp before you say nothing can be done. give it a chance. sometimes software can do things hardware cant....

It worked for fah33m. it should for you :)
