Hey everyone !
I have a gigabyte g31es2l motherboard and a dual core e5200 2.5Ghz CPU. Now I cannot have more than 4GB DDR2 of RAM due to motherboard restrictions, and I require atleast 8GB RAM. So any cheap alternatives which supports upto 8GB RAM(DDR3 is preferred).
Also, I have my processor overclocked at 3.5Ghz and would prefer the new motherboard to have the same overclocking abilities.

Hows this > Gigabyte GA-G41MT-S2 Motherboard | Motherboard | Flipkart.com

Budget is around 2.5k for motherboard.
Thanks everyone in advance.

That is the best board with that chipset so go ahead and get that. Buying an LGA 775 board right now isn't advisable but if you are not looking to upgrade completely, you don't have any other choice. One think I'd like you to know is that the sata connectors on the board might be blocked IF you have a long graphics card. If you have a long video card or plan to buy one in the future, ASUS P5G41T-M LX motherboard would be a better choice. I'm not 100% sure though so I'd wait for the experts to speak. #ALPHA17

Googled a bit and came to know that Asus mobo is not that of a good overclocker, so I think I should stay with Gigabyte G41MT. I have an ati 4850 which is kinda long, but I don't think that should block my HDD's SATA port. But I am wondering that g41mt does not have an IDE connector(its used to connect the dvd drive right ?). If this is the case then what are my options ?

I'm not sure if any of those G41 boards are good overclockers. Not all of their caps are solid and the chipset heat sinks are small.Actually, you might want to call up flipkart and ask them which revision of the Gigabyte board they have. Apparently the rev 1.3 version does not have solid caps but rest of them do.GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-G41MT-S2 (rev. 1.3) < check here for more info. The asus board does have a IDE connector but then most of the DVD drives these days are SATAII based unless you have a really old drive. Either way you can just go ahead and buy a new one, it costs just 1k. I can vouch for the asus board as I am currently using it. It's stable and drivers were easy to find on Linux but if you are hearing good things about the Gigabyte board, go for it. After sales service should be easier, and it has all solid caps (above rev 1.3).

Argh, my newlines aren't being shown and I can't edit my posts!

Thanks for your inputs guys.

I checked out some videos on youtube and found out that E5200 can be overclocked on Gigabyte's G41MT-S2 at around 3.5-3.6Ghz and thats enough for me, while Asus one is not so good in overclocking E5200 specifically. Also, Gigabyte's G41MT-S2PT, as suggested by #HailStonE looks like a nice board to me with all solid caps and IDE connector, and it should also be able to push my CPU to 3.5Ghz so I think I will go with this board and pair it with a Corsair 2x4GB DDR3 RAM. What say ?

Yeah that sounds good, but I wouldn't recommend spending too much on an LGA 775 socket board. But then if it meets your requirements who am I to question it..

Why do you say so bro ? Is it an expensive board ? I am comfortable if the price for motherboard lies around 2.5k.

LGA 775 is a dead socket. Intel has stopped making processors that operate on it. So if you plan to upgrade in the future your choices will be limited to existing Core2Quad processors which aren't as efficient as the current gen i5 processors.

Don't spend anymore than 2.5k on the motherboard. Buy good quality RAM preferably from Corsair that have 10 year warranty so that you can use them if you ever upgrade to i3-i5 series.

Get a second hand one.. As I mentioned in my deleted post somebody is selling it on another forum (not to be named here)...

The sole purpose of buying a new motherboard is because I want to have 8GB RAM, nothing else at the moment. I will be buying a new system but that is not anytime soon. So, as you said, I will be buying Corsair's 8GB RAM that can be used in my future system as well.

#HailStone : Yeah, I got that bro, but I prefer to purchase a new one (yeah I know this thing is dead, but still)...

I think its better to get the second hand option since its a dead socket anyway. The mobo concerned is hardly used & quite new itself with enough warranty on the table. You can negotiate a good deal there & save some bucks while getting what you want.

In the end its your decision to make but personally I would have avoided a brand new one...

#Rogues #HailStonE :
Hey guys, finally bought Gigabyte G41M-Combo.

Reason for not buying :
G41MT-S2 > Does not have IDE support.
ASUS P5G41T-M LX > Overclocking Issues for E5200.
G41MT-S2PT > Was almost going to buy this one, but after lot of search got to know that FSB could not be changed in the BIOS so had to drop this one also.

G41M-Combo supports both DDR2 and DDR3 RAM and the box says that it has all solid caps(got rev 2.0). Bought 2x4GB Corsair 1333Mhz RAM and overclocked my proccy to 3.33Ghz(FSB at 333) and so far everything is running perfectly. No issues.

OT : One weird thing happened. The corsair Value Select RAM I bought had these long stickers on both sides which were preventing my system to start. My system just kept on rebooting. And after removing those stickers, the system booted just fine. Maybe the stickers were causing the RAM to heat up !!
