Hi,

My dealer tells me that Asus K8SMX board is not available at present and it has been stopped. Is it true? He is instead offering me the Asus A8VMX board. Is it ok ? Or should I choose a different board? Which one to go for? Please help me as this has to go along with an AMD Sempron 2500+.

I think you mean the Asus K8V-MX. Yep, the board is absolutely fine. Its based on the Via K8M800 chipset. Most people recommend the Via chipset over the SiS chipset(K8SMX is based on the SiS)

Bought 2 of these boards for relatives of mine - specifically to use with a Sempron 2600+, and they're working fine :)

what is the price os asus k8s-mx and gigabyte k8s760m at chennai?

And which one's vga performs better? since, k8s760m has 64MB dedicated memoery for vga.

The SiS chipset performs better infact. Its not available any longer. But anyway, both the chipsets are mediocre.

Raghu.

The k8v-mx is good for budget systems. Assembled 3 pcs with that board for friends year back.

The only diff between the SiS and via chipsets is that the SiS overclocks a bit cos it has the PCI/AGP locks working. I know it works in the k8s760m for sure. Its a pretty sweet board for the price. Expect around 5K in 3dmark 2k1 from that video chipset. Had a board around gathering dust until recently.

Not bad Ren - you're correct, both are based on the Same SiS chipset :D

The SiS chipset was pretty good for the price, unfortunately like Raghu mentioned I cant find it anymore. The more commonly available budget board now is the Asus K8V-MX based on the Via chipset, no PCI/AGP locks like the SiS and the onboard gfx is a notch lower too - but nice and stable board :)
