AMD has confirmed on the Socket M2 design and will be unveiling the Socket M2 processors in Q2 2006. Single-core Athlon 64/FX "Orleans" and Dual-core Athlon 64 X2 "Windsor" will be based on 90nm processor technology and will support DDR-II 667 memory bus, bi-directional 1GHz HT bus, Presidio Security as well Pacifica Virtualization. The Athlon 64 X2 5000+ is based on "Windsor" core and is clocked at 2.667GHz (8.0 x 333.3MHz) and contains 2 x 1MB L2.

So it seems from now to mid 2006 will be the best time to get good, low latency, hi-speed DDR rams cheaply.

once both intel and AMD switch over completely to DDR2 it would be an end of an era for DDR. the momemtum and focus will truly shift to DDR2 and above.

333.3 mhz fsb and climbing..... good , eagerly awaiting some exciting times in late 2006 / 2007, till then just TP....:ashamed: ;) in the cpu / mb front.
except for the eternal and imminient Nvidia / ATI duels.:argue:

Virtualisation is something that I'm really looking forward to from the next generation of processors. The performance Vanderpool and Pacifica claim to offer is fascinating. All the overheads of software virtualisation vanish because there's dedicated silicon available.

Yeah and DDR2 will deliver its full-bodied blow to DDR only once AMD's memory controller begins to supports DDR2.

Can't wait!

what about the cost guys......

5000+ will cost like a bomb but good news may come for people who wants to buy 3400 or 3700+.

price may come down.. just hope...

i would like to make AMD system with at least 3700+ so it will be good news for me. anyway till the time wait..........

its still very very long time to go. 8 months or even more. Who knows what will be the position till then. But yeah AMD will continue to dominate for 2 years in gaming. They have that much technological lead (atleast according to their own research dept and also according to many others thats the time intel will need to come up with totally radical new design)

yeah... Quaddy here is "adjusting" with a Venice that does 3.0Ghz..... Sad.... The compromises Quaddy is making :bleh:
