AMD has launched an online app store called AppZone for Windows PCs powered by AMD hardware which includes Android Apps and other apps and games optimised for systems with AMD hardware .
AMD in association with Android vendor BlueStacks has developed the AppZone which features some Android apps that work well with it, but users can search and download any app . AMD has also launched its own version of BlueStack's player software that lets users install apps on a virtual Android device running on Windows . The software even includes hardware emulation technology, called LayerCake, that allows apps compiled for the ARM architecture to run on x86 CPUs.
The player can run on non-AMD PCs as well , but it has OpenGL hardware acceleration that enables apps to run better on AMD chips .
However, the technology has few limiations , its currently based on Android 2.3 Gingerbread . Also , it cannot emulate hardware specific features present on phones like GPS , SMS , sensors etc .
