CPU/Mobo AMD Phenom II X3 Vs Intel Quad's and Duo's

Intel has Q8400/Q9400 to compete against Phenom II X4 920/940.
E8400 depends on application you are running, current E0's will overclock to 4.3-4.5 24/7 and beat anything in gaming except GTA IV ~. Also in multitasking extra clock speed will compensate for the 1 core missing.
You should go for X2 550 and unlock or X4 955.
If you want less power consumption and no performance sacrifice, E8400 is nice, also value budget mobo P35/P45 is enough for clocking duals, say 500FSB.

X3 beats E8400 hands down. The multi tasking performance will always be higher than E8400. Not o mention that X3 has the best Overclocking headroom among all the Phenom II's. You can do 3.8ghz easily on a decent HSF.

Yuo, X3 730 beats E8400, in all benchs except PI, plus there is a large boost in performance in multithreaded apps.

Thank You all one thing was suggested and its a Hot Topic of unlocking 4 cores will it be stable for long ? wont affect on life span of CPU like after months ? if i sacrifice on CPU and MOBO like i go for Phenom x2 550 BE knowing it cant be overclocked easily with 3.1 GHz on a board biostar ta790gx will it slow the performance ! with compare to Phenom II x3 720 BE 2.8 Ghz ? !

X2 will always perform low in multi threaded application while in non-multi thread apps X2 will have significant lead due to higher clock speed

i added the Reps + + thanks to all ... ! Rest Would be Normal DDR 2 Kingston 800 Mhz 4 GB , WD 1 TB , Iball Work Horse cabinet with 400 Ps , maybe V8 coolers if i plan to OC and 24 inch TFT Benq , well if i save some money i go for ATI HD 4850 card ! i wont say its a best Rig but i just hope it work fine
madnav ! buddy i am trying my best to squeez everything .. but as u say wants are unlimited and supply always fell short of it , i also hoping to get 4850 but lets c ! can u tell me In Biostar 790gx like yours ..has inbuilt Hd 3300 card right so can i corsfire it with external GFX ? like Hd4850 ? i mean Dual it can run it ?

hybrid cf works only with hd3450 n 3650 i thnk.
and hd4850 is not gonna work with that iball 400w
if you really want to squeeze everything in your budget then hunt for X2 550BE batch 0922APMW n unlock it to X4 successfully.
get vx450 for now n settle for HD4770 when prices settle a bit down..

you rated on what basis? according to benchmarks at all stock speeds prove E8400 is better than X3 720, Q8400 is similar in performance to E8400 but scores more in multi-threaded apps. Same with X4 955 and Q9550...in some benchs 955 beats Q9550 and in some, Q9550 beats 955.
