CPU/Mobo AMD Phenom II X4 High Temperatures

Hey Guys,

I have recently noticed that my CPU Temperatures are rising very quickly. The idle temperature is around 40 - 45 Degrees & it shoots up within a few minutes to 60 - 65 Degrees.

I've attached a screenshot of a Benchmark test I ran, This wasn't the case before, My Idle temps usually was around 35 Degrees & would go upto 55 Degrees max. I do regular cleaning of the cabinet... I've created Positive Airflow ( If you know what that is) inside the cabinet. When i noticed the increase temps I removed the heatsink cleaned & re applied a new thermal paste, still no luck.

What would be the problem? I know the city temperatures are rising but my other system is still at the same temps it used to be.

Isn't that CPU Vcore little high ? 955 BE shoud work properly with 1.3 volts. Check the BIOS and reduce the CPU Vcore voltage

Check if "Cool & Quiet" is enabled and it is actually working. When your system is idle the CPU should clock down to 800 Mhz

I reset my bios to default, its still at 1.472 V, the Voltage is set at auto. and Yes Cool & Quiet is enabled & working.
 
What motherboard are you using, by default my AMD Phenom IIx4 965 clocks 3.4 GHz @1.4v [stock settings], you can easily under-volt to ~1.3v and still retain your default clock-speed.

Okay I read you have a Gigabyte motherboard, download AMD Overdrive and then adjust the processor voltage from there.

Try changing the Vcore to Manual, and set it to 1.35 volts. You are running at stock speeds, right ?

I have a 965BE and it is quite stable at 1.28 volts at stock speeds, NB running at 2.6 Ghz. So your setup should be quite stable at 1.35 volts. If the temparatures drops, you can try reducing it to 1.3 volts and see whether it is stable.

Mine is an Asus motherboard, so cant help you with bios settings

Ok so i've downloaded AMD Overdrive, & set the voltage to 1.35V Didn't affect my Clock Speed

Temps don't go over 60 Degrees now...but i did notice that on 100% usage in benchmarks my Mouse starts to freeze up every few seconds.
 
First thing disable amd cool n quite. Its useless in todays world. It reduces fan speed. Disabling it will make your fan run to its full rpm thus getting low stable temps atleast way down from your current ones.

Secondly never put the volts to auto as far as possible. Set them to manual. Operating voltage for your amd is 0.850-1.425V. You can set it to 1.25 safely. and then see the difference.

When i dont OC, i set my Phenom 720BE to as low as 1.18v. And my temps chill below 31c on stock hsf.

What is the room temparature ?

Your overdrive Vcore still shows 1.42V whereas in the previous screen you have set it to 1.35 V

Does your motherboard has a Load Line Calibration feature ? If it has, please turn that off

There is no way the cpu temp goes as high as 59 degrees, when you have a hyper 212+ installed, 1.35 Vcore and no overclocking.
 
Ok guys not sure what happened, here is what i did, I set the System Voltage from Auto to Manual & changed CPU Voltage from Normal to 1.3500 Volts but when i would boot in windows & start AMD OverDrive it would still show as 1.4 V. I tried it a few times but no luck.. then I tried to set the CPU Voltage to 1.25 V & when I click on apply it froze & then gave me a blue screen. I rebooted & started Over Drive again & it was still showing 1.4V so i decided to give up on it as i am going to scrap this pc in a few months.

I ran the Benchmark again without changing anything after the BSOD & this time the temperature wont go over 52 Degrees C... Weird right?

Room Temperature is probably in 27 - 29 Degrees

Any Idea's as to why it would now suddenly be normal?

With your existing setup 52 degrees is what you should see during benchmarking. What is your idle temparature now ? Has it come down to around 37 degrees ?

No idea why the temps went haywire, it sure was out of ordinary.

I do use coretemp cause i have a rainmeter plugin that requires it... as far as i could tell overdrive readings were accurate, i have used coretemp, CPUID hw monitor & even AIDA 64 Extreme. all gave same readings as AMD Overdrive which i only installed cause ALPHA17 suggested to try it to reduce the voltage.

Yes Temp has reduced, my current idle temp is 38 Degree.
