Hi,

Wanted to know whether going for X3 720 BE would be a wise purchasing decision. I have heard that its End of Life and there are lots of AMD Processors waiting to get launched. Whatz your take ? If I were to go for an equally powerful and pricewise similiar processor , which one from the new lineup would that be.

Regards,

Deepak

EOL and a product phasing out from manufacturing have completely different meaning. You will have to mention the purpose of this processor/rig and the budget that you can shell out.

As far as gaming is concerned, 550be and x3 720 satisfies them easily for a pretty long time, but then again not everyone buy their rig for gaing, do they?

Well, my budget is around Rs.6500/-. I have the rest of the system, just wanted to change the processor. My motherboard M2N32-SLI WI-FI deluxe, though outdated supports most latest AMD processors with TDP lesser than 100. The officially supported processor is X3 720 BE but I read in a lot of forums along with CPU-Z to support it that most AMD processors work with this motherboard.

I do browsing, a lot of photoshop related work, games etc.

Athlon II X4 620 - 5k

I might be sounding stupid, but I have this question. What happens if I unlock a x3 720 (or for example any unlockable AMD processor) using a latest motherboard and then puts that processor in an older MOBO. Will I get to use the unlocked core ?? Does it work that way ???

NO it won't work

X3 720 is a really good proccy, and is priced just 6.1k now locally.

lot better vfm than X2 550. What if its EOL ? If it goes dead, u will surelly get some other Phenom II X3/X4 better than it for sure after RMA.

ANd what you have to consider now is> how is the proccy today? and i might say its an excellent vfm proccy. Much better vfm than x2 550/x4 620/x4 955 etc.

LOL no. when you unlock a core, it's done through BIOS and the information is stored in BIOS, not in the processor itself, so when you take out the CPU, it goes to its normal state.

so x3 720 it is for my system. I am also 2 gb more of ram to supplement my existing 2 gb. I use windows 7 so it would be good i guess.
