We now have the first initial benchmarks in Geekbench, which give us a hint at the performance of the two new cards, the Radeon RX 9070 XT and the Radeon RX 9070.

The leak also sheds light on the specifications of the two RDNA 4 GPUs. The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT is equipped with 64 compute units or 4096 stream processors with a maximum clock rate of 2570 MHz and packages 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, while the Radeon RX 9070 is equipped with 56 compute units or 3584 stream processors. The non-XT variant has a maximum reported clock rate of 2210 MHz and features the same 16 GB GDDR6 VRAM.

AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Stress Tested In FurMark, Performs Equivalent To RTX 4080 While Remaining Incredibly Cool At 55°C

AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Hardly Reaches 55°C With 10 Minutes of Stress Test in FurMark, Delivers 20,732 Points

Early tests reveal the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT performs as well as the GeForce RTX 4080 but with superior thermals.

This is probably the second time the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT has been benchmarked in FurMark but this time the window clearly shows the GPU's name. The user 'gaav87' on AnandTech Forums posted the results of the FurMark stress test, revealing the GPU's name and score.

This was an OpenGL test conducted at 1080p resolution with MSAA Off and the GPU was stress-tested for 10 minutes. Even though FurMark isn't the best way to compare GPU performance, it is still much more accurate than Geekbench tests. The sample was GIGABYTE Radeon RX 9070 XT Gaming OC 16G, which is a factory-overclocked edition, and it delivered 20,732 points (345 FPS).

It should also be noted that the drivers were from the Linux Mesa 25.0 stack, which was released a week ago and officially brings RDNA 4 support. Therefore, the score is likely reliable. The closest score I could find with the same settings was 20,702 points (344 FPS) for the GeForce RTX 4080 with Windows drivers. You have to consider that these are somewhat different scenarios, but despite this, the RX 9070 XT looks in a decent position.

We have seen previously that the RX 9070 XT does stack against the RTX 4080 quite well and this was also shown in a recent FurMark score that revealed the RX 9070 XT's score of 7979 points to be equivalent to the 8030 points scored by the RTX 4080 at 4K resolution. Well, if you think this is impressive, wait until you see the RX 9070 XT's thermals.

The benchmark window reveals that the RX 9070 XT hardly reached 55°C with 100% usage even after 10 minutes of stress test. If you don't know how intensive FurMark can be, you need to test your GPU in the software yourself. Typically, it's much easier for your GPU to exceed 80°C in FurMark than in any other test quickly. Indeed, the RX 50 series is also decent at thermals, but the RDNA 4 GPUs might exceed our expectations.

Moving on to the next test, the user also posted a screenshot of the Superposition benchmark at 1080p Extreme presets. The RX 9070 XT scored 14,534 points, which we don't know where to put exactly compared to the RTX 4080 or any equivalent GPU, due to the absence of scores with similar settings on Linux drivers. The user compares it against the RX 6900 XT, which scores 9408 points, but since the drivers are for Windows, it's not very helpful in determining the RX 9070 XT's position in the hierarchy.
