Desktop, mobile lines pruned too

AMD took the axe to its desktop and mobile processor families this morning, chopping up to 26 per cent off what it charges for its chips.

The company reduced prices for its mobile Turion 64, dual-core desktop Athlon 64 X2 series, Mobile Athlon 64 products, and both mobile and desktop Sempron processors.

Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 FX prices remain unchanged, though AMD took the opportunity to drop its two bottom-most Athlon 64 parts, the 3000+ and 2800+. The Mobile Athlon 64 2800+ is also no longer with us.

Gone too are the Socket 754 desktop Semprons, the remaining Socket A desktop Semprons and all Socket 939 versions without 64-bit support.

AMD's full price list, valid as of 24 October 2005, can be found here.

I mean even in the 939 platform one can't find 3000+ thus this means 3000+ is stopped in 754 as well as 939 platform...?

I was out today to purchase a HDD.... The dealer told me that there are cuts in ASUS + AMD pricing... He told me that official prices are still not with him but now a A8N E + AMD 64 3000+ combo will costs abt Rs 1000 less... Nothing was confirmed yet... Could this be because of AMD price cut :S... If so then thats fast...

Maybe.

Proccessor market is really funny though.

A Xeon Dual Core 3 Ghz costs 15k while a Xeon Single Core 3 Ghz costs 11k :S.

Dual Xeon would cost 22k and Dual Core Xeon would be 15k :|.

Not so much difference in performance between Dual Core and Dual Xeons :|. But yet the price. Lol.

When i bought the A8NE for 7K, mrp on box was 10,570/- and dealers were trying to push it to ignorant people for 7.5-8.5K!!:@
Saw a new mobo box at dealer few days back and it shows mrp at 8000/-!!:@
so will wasily cost around 6-6.5K in mumbai now!!:)
And i thought prices would go up slightly!!

Good news indeed. But i cant still understand how motherboard prices have decreased suddenly on decreasing processor prices..

Also, mentioned Athlon64 prices are to remain the same!

I dont see much of the difference in motherboard price, A8N-E costed 6475 when i bought mine last month and now its 6400. As for the processor i called up delta today the cost of A64 3000+ which is Rs.7275 whereas i bought it for Rs.7200 last month(15th september)

P.S: Mods can you please delete my double post above. I think my net got stuck up that time:(

mobo price down may b asus coming to know dfi entering the market soon......or may b new mobo is round the corner....is it so

Even dual opteron is available here (dont know its dual or not, it was given under dual core section in that page correct me if i am wrong)

anyone know the price of 3500+ as of this week? ebay.in prices show around 16000 rs for pib which i think is high.
was thinking of buying 3000+ but this news comes as a shock. i don't want to buy an outdated processor now.

Most of the Opterons available here are the Socket 940 versions, not the Socket 939 versions. Unless someone can contact their dealer and confirm otherwise :)

Its an absolute shame they've removed the low-end 3000+ parts, cause thats what sells the most. Not to mention, with the removal of the Semprons - they have no value based product either!
