CPU/Mobo AMD to announce chip rises, falls, M2 prices

CHIP FIRM AMD is readying price changes on its chips as a leadup to the launch of its socket AM2 chips.

That's according to AMD Board, which said even though the chips are likely to be launched at Computex, resellers have been informed of the rises.

AMD has a problem similar to Intel's in that it has to reduce stock levels and time its announcements to collide with its bigger brother. Intel has tackled this problem since February by offering its channel large rebates on certain SKUs (stock keeping units).

Athlon X2 price up and Socket AM2 listed

Euro resellers have been informed by AMD that Athlon X2's prices will go up on the 10th of April of a few euros. Athlon 64 FX' prices will remain unchanged. On the 15th of May, Semprons' prices will go down and Socket AM2 processors' prices will be released even though the chips (Socket AM2 Athlon 64 and Socket AM2 Sempron) will be launched a bit later: "In order to get used to it" AMD explained while stating that cheap Socket AM2 motherboards will come very quickly and will guarantee a fast transition to this new socket size...
