AMD to drop prices, launch FX-4130 CPU on August 27
AMD today updated A-Series, FX-Series and Phenom II pricing pages, lowering prices on full range of "Llano" APUs, and high performance K10 and "Bulldozer" CPUs. The pages shows effective date August 27, which suggests that the price drops will happen next Monday. Overall, the prices were cut by 1% - 23%. The biggest price reductions were for Phenom II 955, which dropped by 23% from $105 to $81, and Phenom II X4 965 BE, slashed by 21% from $115 to $91. Many Phenom II processors received only symbolical cuts, 2% or less. On the other hand, there were pretty significant cuts across full A- and FX-Series lineups. On average, AMD "Llano" processors will be cheaper by 15.7%, and FX CPUs will be 11.9% less expensive. Big price discounts for older products usually point to impending release of newer and better products. In this case, AMD "Llano" APUs will be replaced by "Trinity" accelerated units in one or two months, and faster FX CPUs will be also coming in the 4th quarter. Full list of price changes is provided further below.
