AMD To Release Radeon HD 7970 " GHz Edition "
Nvidia is holding the fastest GPU crown with its GTX 680 and GTX 690 . Now latest rumor on the internet says that AMD will bump the core clock on its Radeon HD 7970 to reclaim the top performing single GPU spot from Nvidia . The news comes Atomic MPC .
The reference HD 7970 is slightly slower than Nvidia GTX 680 , so AMD will ramp up the core clock on HD 7970 to 1GHz on reference cards so that it can take the single GPU performance crown back from Nvidia .
Atomic MPC says -
"When questioned as to why AMD were launching a GHz edition now, and didn't originally, they explained that yields are now better, their average voltage required to hit 925MHz is much lower than it was on early ES revisions, and most chips are happily hitting 1250MHz now. It's time to let the GPU stretch its legs a little as yields improve. "
