So claims this article written just after AMD's April 09 price cuts:
AMD's Athlon 64 X2 5600+

AMD Athlon X2 5600+ is priced similar to Intel's E6300 but its performance is close to the E6600. There is a further saving on cheaper AM2 motherboards.

Also the idle power consumption of the X2 5600+ is lower than the E6600 according to the article.

Something to think about!

AMD will always be ahead in the price-performance ratio .. plus u won't need a good mobo to OC the CPU ... this CPU should easily do 3 GHz even with cheap ram ..

for god sake, will AMD stop this new Price/Performance campaign and come up with something worthwhile to compete with the Core 2s...its as if they have lost all hope of conquering the Core 2s and instead are left with nothing but to correct their inflated prices every now and then...this is plain pathetic...:bleh:

It seems like most of the brisbanes, (3600+ to 5600+) hit 3ghz as the max oc compared to around 3.6ghz for the c2d's ... so if you are looking to oc ... better stick with th 3600+ and add a good cooler to it

just shows hw much the greedy AMD guys overpriced their X2....

Cant blame them though...

Err.....why is it pathetic?

Inflating the prices first..then bringing it down just because they cannot bring out something worthwhile to compete..normally prices play with a buyer's psyche..so now they have turned to such tactics to attract buyers...sucks really..:@

Lol its called business, where were you when P4 shit was selling for 10k odd and then reduced to arnd 5k. Isnt it good for consumers...

How does this change its performance?

it doesnt change its performance..but it does gives it a price advantage over its competitor...

if the 5600+ wud have competed against the E6600 at its earlier price, ppl wud have gone for the E6600..now tht the prices have been slashed..ppl will have to think over it..its just dirty marketing to cover up for ur deficiencies..since they cannot come up with a better product they wanna play the price game to attract buyers..

I will never buy according to price:no:

I think of what i need and that is my plain E6300 for a long time :bleh:

Well buddy, i know i'm stirring up a hornet's nest :P here but AMD had never been down to such tactics b4..atleast not so frequently...now all the news u hear about AMD is about price cuts..and tht too at such a frequent interval that ppl are made to believe tht AMD are at the mercy of buyers now for the lack of quality products to compete with its rival..

but if one looks at them compares these 2 as of now after price cuts , for a person who does not want to OC his pc , AMD is giving him very good options. a more value to money thing.

If u notice the prices are in dollars which hardly gets practically translated to inr. The difference is of 5 $. But tell me whats the price for even X2 5000+ in india. E6300 Rs. 9100/- (approx. b4 price cut), X2 5000+ (10k+ after price cut). Still intel is ahead.

We livin India. That changes the whole perspective.

:ohyeah:

What tactics???

Its pure business. Every single company is here to make profit.

Blame Intel if you want to for prices of X2s before. They didnt had anything good enough even for the price of X2 a year back.

Why do u blame AMD for pricing their product more if its the best in the market?

What Intel is doing now is exact same thing. They are still not threatened by AMD because overall they have better product range. And costs them less than $40 to make each chip as of now.

AMD was always best bang for buck until the age of K8. K8 simply was way way ahead of its competition.

And even a few days back K8 was better value for money than Pentiums. X2 was priced higher but that was one of the first dual core CPU out and it was ought to be expensive.

People wont care about this tactics. If they are getting 5600 X2 at this price, well its good for them, its good for AMD and its good for everyone.

Keep in mind as the technology gets matured it gets cheaper to manufacture and manufacturer gets better yields. Thats why you are seeing AMD able to offer these processors at these costs now.

eh??
Prices here are almost same and in some cases lower than international prices when it comes to CPUs.
Thankfully we dont have any customs or excise duty on Processors so they are not that expensive.
Both 6300 and X2 5600 are below 10k.

Thats what normal practice wud be..but in this case, AMD is coming up with price cuts every now and then..to the point tht it doesnt seem like the usual 'mature product-less price' thing anymore.. its as if they are desperately trying to capture lost ground by lowering prices before they mature.. and since they are able to do it simply proves how inflated their prices have been b4 the core2 hit them where it hurt..

but well, i too agree tht afterall its all business and companies as big as this will do everything to survive in the heat of it..was just talking about ethics..

But then i realize..ethics and business dont go hand in hand..
