RPG did some digging, and found the site is indeed registered to Friction along with the following description: “3D game, Frictional Games, advanced physics, survival horror, action adventure, first person, horror, scary, HPL, work in progress, upcoming game, next frictional game, game development.â€

Furthermore, RPS found some interesting text accompanying the domain registry: “Welcome to the next Frictional game site, a site with information about our game projects in development. We use this site to post content about a project in development, during the period it does not have a final name decided.â€

I like!

It's official & the name is, Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs.

It’s been confirmed! Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs is the title of the upcoming survival horror game from Frictional Games and thechineseroom of Dear Esther fame. The fine folk over at Joystiq managed to track down Frictional Games designer Thomas Grip and thechineseroom‘s Dan Pinchbeck and use effective interrogation techniques to get them to talk about Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs. We were suspicious before of thechineseroom’s input and now it has been revealed that they are to be the developers while Frictional Games act as producer.

“It’s not a direct sequel, in terms of it doesn’t follow on from the story of Amnesia. It doesn’t involve the same characters,†Dan Pinchbeck told Joystiq. Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs will be set in the same “alternate history and set in the same universe†apparently. You can hear the slap of thousands of survival horror fans high five-ing all across the globe.

The first details come in although we can expect a lot more from Joystiq as they have a much lengthier interview with the two fellows going up on the site a little later. There’s a few more images for you look at over there as well!

Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is set in 1899 and follows the “wealthy industrialist†Oswald Mandus, who has returned home from “a disastrous expedition to Mexico, which has ended in tragedy.†Struck by a destructive fever, Mandus is haunted by dreams of a dark machine until he mysteriously regains consciousness. Months have passed unbeknownst to the industry tycoon and emerging from his slumber the roaring engine of a mysterious machine sputters to life.

More information on Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs will probably turn up on the official website in the near future. We do know that Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs will be released on PC in Fall 2012.

OMG this is awesome! The game is being developed by thechineseroom, the devs. behind Dear Esther and is produced by Frictional Games. Besides, it does not appear to be a direct sequel.

Clicking on the link no longer opens Google Maps but a computer screen with a short message which links to 2 images.

I couldnt finish the first game, found it too scary for my lil brain to handle!

Will probably never touch this game..hehe

This is surely gonna be fun. the story seems intriguing. Hope it will more scary as hell !

Having played Dear Esther recently, I have absolutely no qualms about thechineseroom developing the title. I was a bit skeptical initially considering what Frictional Games managed to pull off. Not any more.

Considering how scary the last amnesia game was ... i almost dont want machineroom doing this. This is supposed to be a game, to be played.
