The latest data from Kantar WorldPanel unsurprisingly shows the continued growth of Android, which increased its market share by 4.5 percent, now commanding a 61.8 percent market share, while iOSwitnessed a decline of 3.3 percent to 32.6 percent. Windows Phone also shrank from 4.6 percent to 4.3 percent.

Kantar noted that Motorola and LG were able to pose a more significant threat to Samsung in the US. LG's mobile division had its biggest quarter in five years, and the manufacturer is now intent on maintaining its momentum by focusing aggressively on entry-level and mid-tier segments.

61 percent market share that barely generates revenue to 32.6 percent that generates insane margin. We know who is really winning this race.

Well, it's obviously very clear who is winning and who is loosing.

Winners: Android phone/tablet users, Android handset manufactuers, Google, Microsoft, Apple, Apple component suppliers (Ex: Samsung), Apple Shareholders, Developers
Losers: iPhone/iPad users.

I think most people buy iproducts in usa because of the "native" superiority mentality. They cant subconsciously allow a korean/japanese company to dominate sales. Hence they want a US Company to be dominant no matter how ridiculously overpriced it is.

Look at Turbo droid / Xperia z3 tablet compact. Much superior to trash called iphone 6/6+ and ipad mini 3

Many people buy iPhones in US since they have to pay less amount of money upfront. Paying 99$ or 199$ on contract is much easier than having to shell out 600$ at one go.

yeah same mentality like sophisticated people here prefer to eat biryani at ac restaurants which makes shitty biryanis instead of local ones which make really awesome biryanid

You should use an ipad to understand how much better the apps are on the ipad. And for similar specs they dont cost much of a premium. I am not a fan of closing down the ecosystem like apple does to an extent that you cant even add an sd card, but I do see the immense value a well designed os and app eco system brings. Some of the oldest apple devices still get OS updates. Some might not need all these and its perfectly okay to go for android.

I speak as someone that owns Windows, Android and iDevices.

Ya, but off late not all their OS updates have been good.

Speaking as the owner of an Ipad 2 with ios 8.0. Lags a lot while using Safari.

Also, Android has pretty much caught up and surpassed iOS in some cases in terms of OS design.

Same pricing or even less for Samsung/LG/Motorola handets, even nexus 6 is on major US carriers this year for 49.99

Well, I think most people here on these forums have already have used/owned an iPhone/iPad. So, its not like people who prefer android or windows phone haven't used iOS at all. Many of them have used and owned all sorts of devices like you and me.

My mom has an iPad and even with her limited use, she finds my own android tablet a better device. My sister has an iPhone given by her company and its upgraded every time a new iteration is out, so, she has an iPhone 6 right now, but she finds her windows phone device and lately Android considerably better. So her iPhone 6 is sitting at home just gathering dust.

Many people who got an iPhone and iPad because of the excessive hype are no longer in the same state.

As for getting software upgrades, getting them is not always a good thing. My iPad 2 has become a slide show after installing iOS 8.0.1. Its like running Windows 7 on a 10 year old PC with 512MB RAM. You might be able to install it, but its practically useless. What's even worse about iOS is that unless you upgrade, many of the apps stop working and you are forced to upgrade whether you like it or not. In fact, with its extremely limited hardware functionality and capabilities, I was perfectly fine with iOS 6 on it, I was forced to upgrade to even iOS7 because some apps stopped working.

On Android, this is not the case. I have never seen a commonly used app that does not work on any of the 4.x.x Android version. For example, I am perfectly satisfied with Android 4.3 on my Galaxy S3. I can run all the apps that I need without having to upgrade to a newer android version. I don't want or care about getting 4.4.x on it.
