Android outselling iPhone

are we talking about single android phone model?

like saying the whole range of windows based machines outselling a particular apple product.

^LOL yeah. Not a milestone per se. If only a particular product could outclass another one in the similar league, now that would have been something. :P

Nevertheless, the Android OS is still in it's infancy and with the plethora of mods and tweaks that exists in the WWW, it still is a major hit among the apple iphone lovers. Quite an achievement. :P

Agreed totally .. theres no particular android phone beating the iphone .. so theres no point arguing here ..!!:P

Exactly we are comparing an apple with all the vegetables. Anyway its a good achievment but I have to admit that I really like Symbian.

ya its true.aapple's bein compared to all and sundry androidy veggies.wel i think sometime bfore people were comparing symbian and android sales which i feel is a better way of benchmarking

that is the beauty of a diversified ecosystem. That's why for every Droid and Nexus One you also have a Spica. In contrast, for Apple its either their way or the highway.

correction. "it's either their way or no-way".

anyways, in one way, this comparison seems logical. in mobile phone OS market, it doesn't matter how many devices are running a particular OS. all that matters is market share. And Android is doing just that. On the other hand, comparing Android with iphone h/w is stupid and really noobish :)

bah... iPhone OS + Android + WinMo combined together cant still match the market share of Symbian. :bleh:

Hmm
BB: 36%
android: 28%
IPhone: 21%

How come nokia has more market share?

^^ Also the figures cover sales for one quarter only, not very reliable as quarterly sales can easily get skewed by factors like new releases or any others that result in unnatural increase or decrease in sales during that quarter. I would consider sales over 1 year to normalize any skewing factors.

But yeah I guess my source is outdated as well. According to it till end of 2009, symbian held 50% of the market share in terms of yearly sales. If we can find the world wide figures of last 3 quarters in 2009 and first quarter of 2010, then we can get reliable percentage market shares.

hmm. overall (from 1re phone to 1L phone), NOkia has something like 38% worldwide market share right now I think. and as I said in my earlier posts, it's declining really fast with players like Samsung and HTC eating into the share.

Very untrue, Nokia's market share has been fairly constant in the last year and in fact has gone up. In fact if you look at the sales numbers here, you'll notice that the increase in the number of nokia smartphones (7.8 million) is almost equal to the number of iphones sold. That's a point that has been missed by most analysts
