Hello,

I have this Android TV Box running 4.4.2. Connected to my LG non-smart HDTV. Have couple of Android smart phones, tablets, PS3 and laptops connected to my home wifi network. Not too keen on using SMB. Better if it does DLNA or some kind of *cast/SendToTv function.

I am trying various Software such that I can stream content (Photos, Videos, Music) from laptops/phones/etc to this Android Box without much fuss... like how it works with Phone+PS3+YouTube.

Suggestions please?

Thanks for the suggestion there buddy. I am running Win XP still, guess the Plex software isn't supported on it.

Well anyway, I got everything sorted now. My Android Box had eHomeMedia app which does DLNA/etc stuff. I am on MIUI6 on my Xiaomi Note4G, it automatically provides "project" option in gallery - can project images and videos (didn't find easy way to stream my Music folders off the phone). For other Android phones and tabs, I installed iMediaShare apps - this helped streaming/projecting to TV. For Windows and *Nix, I installed Serviio. Its a DLNA Server.

Pretty happy with the setup now. Only thing missing is casting web browser tabs from Windows to the Android Box. Task for the next weekend I suppose.

Use Miracast? I mean what the point of an android device if you need a server for it?

I've got one, it will reach me in a week or two. Will attach it using LAN to router and use it for playback and downloading and misc use (android apps).
If I want to use a phone as a companion, I'l simply use Miracast on the android (it comes inbuilt in mine) and cast it there. OR just open the same thing on the TV box by sharing the link using something like Pushbullet.

TLDR - Why have a server if you have an android box. Use Miracast/anycast apps. Most of the times Android boxes have it built in. Atleast the recent ones.
