Google had announced earlier that their official Android event scheduled for today had been postponed thanks to a hurricane passing through New York. However, Google decided to go ahead with their event and launched their brand new Nexus devices (thus completing the Nexus family). Let's have a look at what's in store for us, as well as find out more about this incremental update which is Android 4.2, code name Jelly Bean itself.

Samsung Google Nexus 10

First up is Google's Nexus 10 tablet, which is as the name suggests a 10" Android tablet. This is Google's answer to the Apple iPad. After the immensely successful Nexus 7 tablet comes it's bigger brother, the Nexus 10. Made by Samsung, the Nexus 10 tablet packs Samsung's latest and world's first ARM Cortex A15 based CPU chipset, as well as ARM's new Mali T604 GPU. Also in tow is 2 GB of RAM, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and a mind boggling 2560x1600 pixels resolution IPS display on the front, putting even the iPad 3's 2048x1536 retina display to shame.

Nexus 10 Tablet Full Specifications

  • Samsung Exynos 5250 Chipset
  • 1.7 GHz Dual Core ARM Cortex A15 CPU
  • ARM Mali T604 GPU
  • 2 GB of RAM
  • 10.1″ display, WQXGA (2560×1600) resolution
  • stunning 298.9 ppi pixel density
  • 16 GB of internal storage
  • 5 MP rear camera, 720p/1080p video (??)
  • (??) Front facing camera for video calling
  • Dual speakers
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

The line up looks something like this:

  • Nexus 10 32 GB @ $499
  • Nexus 10 16 GB @ $399

The Nexus 10 will be available on Google Play store in the US, UK, Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Canada and Japan starting November 13, 2012.

ASUS Google Nexus 7 32 GB HSPA+

We already heard about Google's plan to launch a 32 GB Nexus 7 tablet. What's also in store is a 32 GB version with a SIM card slot, enabling mobile data (HSPA+). This is excellent for those who need data on the go and don't want to use a 3G dongle instead. Google has pushed out their older Nexus 7 8 GB (completely out of existence) out of the line up and replaced it with the 16 GB version. It's only more value for the buyers.
Have a look at the new line up:

  • Nexus 7 32 GB HSPA+ @ $299
  • Nexus 7 32 GB WiFi @ $249
  • Nexus 7 16 GB WiFi @ $199

Now, $199 will buy you a brand new Nexus 7 16 GB, making it a sweeter deal for those who were looking for a purchase.
LG Google Nexus 4

The LG Google Nexus 4 has already been covered by us here and the official launch coverage here.

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

Google has launched their latest iteration of Android, namely Android 4.2. However it retains it's name Jelly Bean. This is because Android 4.2 brings in new features, but nothing ground breaking which gives it enough importance for becoming the next Android, i.e. Key Lime Pie.

The new features in tow are:
  • New Camera features
  • Photo Sphere: A new camera mode to snap photos like in Google Street View for 360 degree panorama shots
  • Upgraded on-screen virtual keyboard, featuring Gesture Typing (Google's own SWYPE)
  • Multiple accounts support for a truly multi user experience
  • Wireless mirroring to a TV connected over WiFi
  • DayDream: Adding useful or just good looking delightful stuff on your home screen while your device is locked (or idle) such as latest headlines or new photos in your album.
